Hi just joined and wanted to introduce myself. Also just started learning c# today and had some quick questions about unity. I had to choose between unreal and unity hardest decision of my life believe it or not. Just had some questions about people saying why they chose unity because of its ease of use, portability, and production. What do they mean when they say producton with c# is better than unreal's and unity has great portability.

Relax. Its not like you are choosing who to marry or if you should have a kid. The decision is not permanent, You can always change your mind later. In fact, one of the best ways to decide is to download both engines and try and get a basic cube moving around. Both engines are free after all.

    On to specifics:

Unity uses C#. Unreal uses C++. Many people (but not all) find C# easier to learn and faster to code in then C++.

Unity deploys to pretty much any platform you can think of. Unreal supports most platforms, but is normally a little slower to get a platform running then Unity. This only really matters if you intend to be an early adopter on the up coming toaster platform.

Unity is generally considered the easier engine. But not by everyone.

Like he said, you don't have to choose. They're both free.

Free software is like a free buffet, theres no hard decisions to be made, just take a little bit of anything you want, and try a little bit of everything

That being said, I like Unity.

The responses above pretty much speak for themselves. I would suggest give both a go and see how you get on. After all, you don't want to spend your days developing on a platform that you do not like. Just go over a few tutorials with both engines and stick with the one you prefer.

    Welcome to the community!

And what matters most is not what engine you choose, but what you eventually end up making for the world to see.

    Good luck!

Cool, if you are on Windows make sure you're coding in Visual Studio Community Edition.
