Just wondering if anyone knows in what way unity has collaborated with this anime? I can't read Japanese so I have no idea!

I think, looking at some of the syntax in the screenshots I've seen, they're using Unity syntax for most of their code. I can't speak for certain though as I haven't started the new season yet.

    The pictures says:
    "ゲームシーン刺作”

Where first part is "Game scene". Meaning there is probably some sort of in-game footage in the anime, and it was probably rendered in unity.

You are allowed to use the Unity logo to indicate a product was made with Unity. This doesn't imply any special collaboration with Unity, beyond them letting us use the engine they built.

I love New Game! - it's kind of amazing how relaxing it is to watch a show where the height of conflict is someone eating someone else's pudding cup by mistake.

There are anime that are about even less than that. I haven't watched new game, but slice of life is a fairly popular genre and they are generally about very mundane things. Some of them are even good.

Game Dev Tycoon did this by releasing a torrent and seeding it, but in that build they are gradually increasing the piracy rate over time until it's basically impossible to be profitable and win the game.

The hilarious part was the people flaming on the forums about the insane piracy rates (they're fairly insignificant in the normal game) destroying their company and the devs just saying "Oh well yeah thats because you pirated the game."

Yep. It's not-totally-inaccurate, either. They even have an extreme gender imbalance in their studio!

(I mean, it's not the usual gender imbalance, but...)

Clearly you haven't seen season two, where a character forgets to perform unit testing.

Wait,......so she works in a game studio. Stopped using Unreal Engine, but uses
Unity game engine. But strangely, doesn't turn into a super ultra powered heroine,
or drives a giant mech, to fight for justice, and destroy the forces of evil?

    Oh man! :( :p

PS: I like her character design alot though.
Purple hair and purple eyes. It suits her well. :D

It's on CrunchyRoll (with ads, if you don't have a subscription). Mind the difference between 'New Game!' and 'New Game!!" (two exclamation points) - the latter is the second season.

(Content warning: there are occasional NSFW/fanservicey moments, as you'll see in the first episode. More cutesy than outright lewdness, though).

Guide to watch anime when you aren't exposed to them:
First anime episode tend to be awfully pandering and even out of character to hook the hardcore audience, have a proper start on the second episode but slow with heavy exposition and then properly start the plot at episode three, all episode will follow a given formula with a light character driven stakes of the week, up until mid season where s hits the fan and became the main stakes that was forewarn all along, up to the 4 final episode streak that begin with a breather episode that is a call back to lighter stakes. Except when it's an adaptation where anything can happen in term of structures and twist, due to meandering of plot in less cost/production risky format.

Don't introduce peoples new to anime with first episode ever

Oh, it used to not be available on my region, and it's on like donkey kong
ShiroBako and girlish number (same genre but on anime creation) still not there :(

I have been disappointed with the series, I was expected the next Shirobako, but too much fan services (and blatant sexual harassment), they basically focus on what they know (character design) to side step the game part which amount to cautious distant research notes they don't really understand and try to hide behind character quirks. It was fun to see that the series was written with male characters that were retcon as moe girl (because otaku audience I guess?) which lead to funny situation.

I wouldn't recommend this as a first anime to profane.

I did have a moment when the main character cries after she looked at the illustration of her mentor she was competing against, after she was sideline for marketing. I mean, I was like "she draws well, what's the big deal, the series art direction flatten the supposed difference of style, I'm sure it will only be symbolic". But when the mentor's illustration was revealed, I was like "wow, there is a difference", it's very subtle, it's not the art style per see, it's the composition showing the experience of the mentor and the choice she made to convey the stated theme of the game, as silly that theme is. It's these kind of nuance that's hard to convey for people who are not accustomed to think about art, she cries at something that don't seem a big deal, that don't look "better" that what she did, and yet it showed how outmatch she was. In struck me too, because I'm a lapsed artist, I don't practice enough, but having this background you sometimes get too comfortable judging stuff, at that moment, me too, just like the character, was taken aback, all I was seeing is all the choice I couldn't make as an artist, even for such silly theme they had and such a silly illustration, that was a really good work, I thought: "I need to train more", so it was really emotional for me for such a very small moment lol.

Wow! I just read your post.
It's interesting how the scene you described, can mimic a personal
experience, that personally happened to someone in real life.
    In this case,...you?

    Also, do you still draw?

It doesn't mimic my real life experience, just that even in the context of abstract mise en scène, the point being made really showed through (surely because they know about the craft of illustrations), which didn't work for the "game part" because it's not authentic.

What I meant, is that the mentor's drawing was spot on and a perfect illustration of the gap between the main and her mentor, and I could understand that just by looking at the drawing and knowing the game they were working on.

It make me reflect back on my skills because this drawing is something I couldn't do even if I could draws as well as I wanted, which put me in the same place than the main, as in it's NOT extraordinary in skills, but it's "super just" which is highly competent. I mean the drawing is simple, it's not hard to make, it's just all the right choice, which is hard to do, it's simple but no simpler.

Display of competence vs display of skills is the nuance that makes it hard to express to profane and that scene so capture that! I mean if I were task to do the same work, what would have been my choice? That's what I was asking myself during the episode, up until the reveal where I could compare the result of the mentor with my own thought, that's why it hit me hard.

They are making a silly stealth game, where the main character is a girl lost in a fantasy world populated by sentient plushies. If she is discovered they will kill her, so she hide inside plushies she killed herself.

    The main's illustration

    The mentor's

Mentor's is not only way more dynamic, but it also exploit the motif from plushies (like the cotton inside) as a strong visual, it convey the threat, the sillyness, the context of the story and the game perfectly. It actually make the theme make sense in a single glance without resorting to complex settings, it really tells you everything important and no more, it entice the player inside the world by showing the main action. Which in some way the main is only TRYING to do but fall flats by being too plain and ambiguous (it's passive, don't explain the action really well, don't tell a story, only part of the exposition).
