For those who haven't heard: https://unity3d.com/prefabs Looks like soon we'll finally be able to put this 9 year old feedback page to rest.
I was concerned that the workflow would be ugly, but pretty intuitive and low friction. So far I haven’t been able break it. If it’s light on the bugs at release it coul be a win.
/me is very excited this would definitely warrant an upgrade from 5.6.4 but also, I cant see the video, does it specify a speculated release date?
Dont forget the preview release of it has its own subforum too: https://forum.unity.com/forums/improved-prefabs.158/
I for one am full on celebrating. This has been my absolute #1 feature request since I first started using Unity back in '09, so this feature finally being complete is a historic moment. If any Unity devs want to drop in on this thread and celebrate too, they're more than welcome. So far I haven't encountered any major issues. I've been taking the nested prefabs for a spin with Greeble Kit assets since it was originally created with nested prefabs in mind, and so far it's been pretty good, very stable.
Definitely looks cool. Made a post over in Worldbuilding a few days ago where Nested Prefabs were suggested, so I look forward to their arrival.
Is there a way to 'turn off' nested prefabs? It's broken a plug-in and I need a fix asap. (The dev isn't responding)
