I tried setting up a third-person camera by copying the component settings from the freelook example onto my virtual camera and setting the view/follow targets to components on my own model. It works, but there's an open rectangle in the center of the viewport, and the camera won't adjust itself unless the look target leaves that rectangle:

I've tried playing with nearly every setting on the virtual camera, but I can't find anything tied to that rectangle; what setting do I need to change in order to eliminate it, and force the camera to keep the player's model perfectly centered in the viewport?

It's the dead zone in the composer. Open the "Aim" section of each of the three rigs in the FreeLook, and set the dead zones to 0.
