Please ignore the following question since I have managed to work out what the problem was. Navigation has changed in the 2022 version of Unity and so the Navigation Static option has been deprecated. The new method for setting up navigation is detailed in the 2022 manual; unfortunately, I was looking at the 2021 manual and so didn't see the relevant information.

    Apologies for posting this question.

I am a complete beginner on Unity so I apologise if I am being stupid!

I have been learning to set up a very basic project following instructions in a book and have arrived at the section on navigating 3D space in Unity. I now need to set up a NavMesh over the play area's walkable area and so I select the relevant GameObject and click on the arrow icon next to Static in the Inspector window to display the options. I want to select the Navigation Static option, but it is greyed out and so I cannot do so.

I have searched the forums and the Internet to try to find a solution, but there does not seem to be anything relevant, which rather worries me. I have installed the AI Navigation package (com.unity.ai.navigation) but that didn't resolve the problem.

I am using version 2022.2.7f1 of Unity on a Windows machine.

Does anyone know how I may resolve the problem?

    Thanks, Phil
