Open the "Preferences" window, which is under either the "File" or "Edit" dropdown depending on your OS. Open the "External Tools" tab and set your "External Script Editor" to Visual Studios.

If you do not have that option, re-download the unity installer for your version of Unity and run it. You should be able to install just visual studio without reinstalling the rest of Unity.

Are you trying to open your scripts from Finder or from the Unity Project window?

no?? is that something you would do? Don't think that's possible.
I am using Unity 2018.2.13f1 Personal
none of my scripts will open in Visual Studios.

All of your scripts must be somewhere in your assets folder, then you should be able to open them in visual studio by double-clicking them in the "project" window in the Unity Editor. If you do not see the project window, click the "Window" dropdown and click "project".

yes the Scripts are there, however when i click on them Visual Studios does not open. Instead, The Script shows up in "TextEdit" and i am unable to make changes to the scripts as needed. I hope I am making sense, and thank you for your patience.

In the preferences window again, try setting your external script editor to MonoDevelop instead of Visual Studio and see if that works. If it does, then there is probably something wrong with your visual studio, and I recommend reinstalling it using the unity installer.
