Things have been going quite well over the summer. It feels great to no longer work 10 hour shifts where my back feels like it’s going to snap like a twig with one more movement, while desperately clinging on to podcasts telling me of this distant fairy land where people are creative and nice and happy.

I’ve been working on a bunch of different projects. For one I got the youtube channel off the ground, it’s a little over 200 subscribers, but I get comments and feedback that I’m genuinely helping people. I don’t think I’ll ever go the route of chasing views by making rather general and shallow entertainment, because even if I were able to get it to something crazy like 50k subs, then what? I want to make games and form my own studio, not make a living with youtube. A lot of subs would be useful to get the word out, but ultimately the game has to deliver.

Unfortunately I didn’t manage to publish any new games. I joined a few groups from reddit, and one looked quite promising, but when even that fell apart I decided to no longer invest time into finding people to work with. It hurts because it would be so much fun and together we could go so much further, but I always end up investing time with people that don’t follow through. I would only make an exception if someone has a bunch of published games or a youtube channel with a lot of videos.

I worked quite a bit on a game with fishing (it was a random game jam theme), and realized the game would be so much better in 3D. So I started learning 3D. I am thinking of getting a VR headset, as developing for that would be so much fun. If the Occulous Quest 2 gets a jailbreak, I’ll buy that. SideQuest looks like a decent community to try out ideas, but that damn facebook log in is a bit too invasive. Some people say they don’t care, but just wait until someone automatically informs their facebook friends about the VR porn session they just started.

    Unrelated stuff:

I got a dog from the shelter, forcing me to go for a walk no matter the weather, which is just the kick in the butt that I needed. I also did a ton of mountainbiking and made more progress than ever before. I challenged myself to tackle more obstacles including some medium drops that are a guaranteed face first landing if you mess up the technique. Jumping is getting better as well, though I’m still scared of the major jump line at my bike park. Unfortunately the season is over and the trails will be closed. I still have that snowboard from last year, that I used for exactly 2 days, making it the worst 1000 euros I ever spent. I am living in a region that used to be famous for skiing, but due to climate change there is almost no more snow. I’ll just work like a mad men during winter and make up for it next summer.

    Here’s my channel btw:
