Being a professional UI, Designer/programmer for 11 years I would agree with this 100%.. I understand trying to add it, but I see why they won't.. One I don't get the superhero chick, what does that have to do with UI?? Also not only is NGUI one of the largest assets made popular , now they have the new UI. I have seen two really good add ones go free , since the new UI. NGUI is one of few that are still around, so I can't see Unity letting any other tool like this on Unity since it won't be of any use.. Why not make a tool that works with the new UI???

Not to sound rude, but being a UI developer and one who loves good UI tools, I can't see anything useful , maybe Unity sees this as well??? Also that bright pink was driving me mad..

I can tell you have talent, but by reading posts you don't seem to listen to feedback from others that great.. Your very defensive. I understand its your baby, but understand, we would be the ones who may use it or buy it... and you made a post asking ask why..

I also see Unity getting way better since alot of people complain due to some many add ons being either bad, or people get popular and go free, or even don't give any support. Heck I own 2 popular assets now that I get zero support for now... So I ditched them and made my own tools... So just saying, so my advice would be use the tool for your self... sell it like someone else said or make another tool off the new UI , if you like UI.. You should know the old and new UI anyways...

    Best of luck either way..

Maybe i forgot to mention ...
... a kiss-Image can use an Atlas texture already.

As well as allowing the designer/developer to tile a certain region.
Even make it look good (no issues) when the Atlas texture is set to a Bilinear filter. :D

Someone will have to explain the repeating theme of "It isn't Anything useful". :[
I'm sorry that what i enjoy making is upsetting to you. :/
Now i feel like a next Door neighbour that won't mow his lawn on a timely scheduled biweekly basis. :|

I admit I was a little defensive, but that's only because some implied that even after 3 years of effort, kissUI wouldn't be relevant. My thinking is, just because kissUI might not have everything everyone would ever want/need from a UI tool right this second, doesn't mean it will stay that way. Doesn't it seem dismissive, shortsighted, demanding, to you?
Now you made me feel like watching The Ugly Duckling. v_v

Is that pink? I explicitly asked for Strawberry. :( I Blame Paul Rudd for the mixup! :D

Theres nothing wrong with your products. (i dont see any problem with your color settings). Asset should not be about taste.
People posting with 1 time profile >-- Very fishy.., Moderators backing up weak claims. Your getting attacked, called dyslectic and unemployed, like they seems to know you.. Sue them for inside business.

I tell you this Izzy... something really rotten in this forum, you ask why it got declined.. Maybe your product will just compete with some other UnityAssetTeam friend or moderator product?

1 Word , "Corruption", and inside friendship.. Asset store is not the best quality place to sell things.. This thread has allot of proof in it, and it stinks..

With the back up from the moderators...nice..just nice..

I think the reality just come more clear.. And when my post gets removed and my profiled ban for some creative reason, my point will even be more clear.

@IzzySoft, did you consider to replace the key images with something that represents what your extension is about? You have obviously create a UI solution for Unity. The key images are unnecessarily sexual in my opinion. This is not an extension to create porn games, so why do you consciously try to create sexual associations? Your asset has nothing to do with that! That's just cheap advertising in my opinion. Overly critical customers may even argue is is false advertising which would bring the Asset Store Team into an uncomfortable position.
I understand that this asset was declined, just by knowing what it is about and how the key images look. It gives customers a wrong impression and exactly to avoid this kind of situation (and many other aspects), submissions are being reviewed. Are you really surprised that your submission was declined?

Lets start a Kickstarter to build a competing Unity AssetStore and take a bit less for sales! :D
Only review Steam GreenLight assets and Award 5% off to Community Asset reviewers.
If we wont do that, we shouldnt complain, too much. :[

I understand your point but sexual and sexy is 2 different things, if the AssetTeam has a issue with that they would tell
him to correct that, but that was clearly not the reason. No check list for him to alter. Just dont want the product in the list,.

What are you even talking about IronMax? He said in his OP that he was out of work, maybe you should read it? No idea what you mean by having back up from the moderators either.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with making your own UI system of course, but the issue is that it was presented in this thread as some sort of business idea, and in my opinion making a UI system that potentially competes with the new UI is a very very very very very bad idea.

Now I don't think it's a bad idea because the new UI is the best possible software ever, far from it, but it's because:

1 - The new UI is actually really good, so making a competitor is instantly very difficult and time consuming (you can see the OP has spent 2? Years on this so far and it's still missing a lot).

2 - The new UI is part of the Unity distribution, so everyone already has it. This means most people won't really try other UIs due to the higher barrier to entry, especially if it's paid.

3 - People are already making extensions to the new UI. If the other UI isn't as popular then people won't port their extensions over, and having a single developer compete with both the UI and its extensions is impossible time wise.

When you combine these what you end up with is an idea that says 'bad business plan' written all over it.

The only reason I'm posting in this thread is because I too have spent years on various projects with the aim of making money that instead were just wastes of time (save for the programming experience gained). I'd like to think that I learned something from these experiences, and right now they're telling me that this guy is about to continue wasting years of his life on a project that has no hope of achieving his intended goals (money?).

Maybe the stuff we're saying sounds harsh, but I sure doubt I'd have stopped working on my failed projects if someone only gently hinted at the possible issues with them. But whatever, it's his life after all. He already said that he'd find work and work on this on the side, so the situation maybe isn't as bad as I first imagined.

    RakeshPrakesh isn't a moderator.

IzzySoft hasn't been attacked. He asked a question about his extension, and people have explained the likely reasons for rejection, particularly zombiegorilla who went way above and beyond in giving an extensive and helpful critique. IzzySoft identified himself as being unemployed in the first post; nobody accused him of that (or of being "dyslectic", which has never come up).

There's no evidence of that at all. What happened is that the asset store was under a lot of pressure to implement quality control, so they have, but "quality" is necessarily going to have some subjective element to it.

If you get banned it's because of people hitting the "report post" button concerning your posts over and over, and the moderators agree (I have a lot of patience but I'm starting to get there). Please post in a constructive manner, instead of trolling.

I don't want to argue about the semantics of sexual and sexy. It is very obvious to me that none of them has anything to do with the content of the package. There isn't an obvious connection between the content and the most prominent element on the key image and as such it is misleading for customers.
When the Asset Store Team declines an asset, they never append a check list or something like that. I had that issue in the past as well and I believe it should be done. What I know as well is that there are or at least were not enough people to handle it. However, this should be discussed in another thread in my opinion and not here.
As long as there is no such thing as a check list, one should go for the most obvious reasons. I didn't test the asset, I quickly checked what it is about and had a look at the key images and I already know I would not have accepted it.

Really? I guess you missed the "edit".. Look in quote, proof is there. mr/Sir Moderator.
He tries to offend him with dyslexia on a anonymous profile.. Now you are defending him as well.

What kind of moderator defends a anonymous profile any ways?..

Sure, but how does he know that he is not a moderator ? Its a anonymous profile, that could be any one. RakeshPrakesh profile was made after you made this thread, and ONLY posted in this thread.. Its normal?

@Ironmax, most moderators in this forum are volunteers. They are not paid by Unity and nevertheless are invaluable for the Unity community. I haven't seen anything in this thread that could look like a conspiracy. Please don't make accusations without having an actual evidence.
It just leads to unnecessary noise and distracts from the actual topic.

In order to get back to the actual topic:
@IzzySoft, I am curious to hear what you have to say about this post.

What's wrong with making an anonymous account? If admins look at my edit then they'll see that I just removed a sentence because it was basically the same as what I already said in my closing sentence (easy to forget what you've written when posting from a phone!). No idea where you got the idea that I was calling anyone dyslexic??? Seems like you're either trolling, or have some crazy delusions about conspiracies that don't exist.

This has nothing to do with this thread. People can create anonymous accounts, as long as they don't make inappropriate post, they are open to write their opinions.
No one has to proof anything to you and you don't have any evidence about any kind of conspiracy. Right now, you are just trolling and I would like to ask you to stop!

This doesn't help anyone and doesn't bring this discussion any further!

Sorry sorry... i keep meaning to, but got distracted. :(

I actually wanted an image close to this:

(this one is not by me, i cant find a stock image close to it, and i cant pay anyone right now)

The ONLY (almost only) reason why it would get rejected, is if Unity was getting most of its sales from the Middle East and such imagery was BAD! Since that probably (cant say with real certainty) is Not the case, I Highly Doubt it was the fashionably dressed superheroine.

Someone did bring up Junior High, or High school kids. I dont know if Unity has Academic licenses or any deals with those types of schools, but I dismissed this, since they have seen much better art in comics shops. Vampirella, Lady Death, etc... Pass on that.

Can anyone think of other possible issues/reasons?

Man, I feel like you're picking my brain so that you can also do the same thing.. If I can come up with an acceptable enough reason. ;) Tisk Tisk Tisk. :)

He has posts elsewhere, but you're right that it's an alternate account. We don't seem to have rules against that, but personally I'm not keen on the practice.

Nobody mentioned dyslexia until you did. Your "evidence" link doesn't actually link to anything except an error page.

I didn't defend anyone, I stated a fact. Personally I'd rather not see people making alt accounts, but I don't make the rules so there's not much I can do about it.

He hasn't posted only in this thread. It's pretty easy to see that for yourself.

Nope, I have mod tools, I can see who his alt account is (starts with "D"), and it's not a moderator.

I'd recommend that you start pressing buttons that result in constructive posts. This isn't going to be a long, drawn-out argument, by the way. The topic is "my UI extension got Rejected. Now what!!??". No more posts about moderators, or baseless conspiracy theories, or false accusations. The end.

You can create the exact same thread as this one and replace the key image with this one. The reply I would write, would be:
    http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/my-ui-extension-got-rejected-now-what-p.333070/page-2#post-2242589

The image has nothing to do with the actual content. Including one of those lips in that size to create a connection to the name KISS would absolutely be acceptable, in my opinion. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea how anyone could think that the asset you are selling with that key image has something to do with a UI! If we make a poll and ask people whether the content behind this image is about a naughty secretary game or a UI creation tool, what do you think will the answer be?

Ohh... simple answer: Image Branding... in this case, Some(one)/Some(thing) Powerful (like the UI will be), a Person, Male or Female.

    Powerful + Person + Female = SuperHeroine. Branded! :D

I'm very surprised no one has tried this already, with all the Superhero films in the media and the attention they are getting presently. Am I the Only One that Cares about perception and what people gravitate to?

You really made that an easy one :)

But seriously, do you think you are going to reach the wanted target audience with that kind of image? My subjective impression is that the people who are attracted by this type of picture are not professional Unity users, but teenagers who rather get their Unity assets from other places where they don't have to pay for them at all. With this kind of misleading picture, you are basically destroying all the hard work you have put into this project!
If you are looking for a strong person in your image to advertise it, there is nothing that speaks against it! But do it in an appropriate way that has something to do with a UI. You can e.g. show a person in some kind of a virtual room containing UI elements and that person grabs the elements and combines them. You can create a very powerful picture like that. It shows what your product is about and you can show its power in a visual way.
Of course, you need to be careful regarding false advertisement. E.g. I wouldn't show the person wearing VR glasses.

I know it may sound hard, but if I had to pick a slogan for your current images, it would have been something like: "Even that dumb bitch is able to use this tool. Dumb Bitches Inc., new with advanced customer services". I sincerely hope this is not your intention :)

You shouldn't be concerned about what people gravitate towards; you should be concerned about what developers gravitate towards, and that is one thing: The tool that gets the job done, striking a balance between being the quickest/ easiest to implement and use, the most performant, and the best fit for the problem. Branding logos and such come far after that, though it's definitely not doing you any favours. I would feel *very* relucant clicking on a seductive logo like the second one you posted, even more so in a work/ professional setting. I can very well imagine this extending to the current mascot/ logo for some people as well.

However, this thread is getting off-topic fast.
    • We can talk about how this is inappropriate branding, but you refuse to take input from your potential consumers on this, and have made up your mind.
    • We can talk about how there are easier and more intuitive tools to use, and even provide examples like Unity UI and NGUI, but you refuse to take input from your potential consumers on this, and have made up your mind.
    • We can talk about how there are more feature-complete tools to use, and what this means for kissUI, but you refuse to take input from your potential consumers on this, and have made up your mind.
    • We can talk about how there are far more performant tools to use, and that even for non-gaming applications (which is a very small market segment in itself) your addon is just not cutting it, but you refuse to take input from your potential consumers on this, and have made up your mind.
    • We can talk about how there is a huge barrier of entry for anyone to use any UI addon over Unity UI now, but you refuse to take input from your potential consumers on this, and have made up your mind.
We can talk about all these things and more, and we do. All to answer your question of why kissUI was rejected, and what needs to be improved. However, you have already made it very clear that you have no intention of changing anything. There is a UI developer here with over a decade of experience, a hugely vast response with a ton of detailed explanations, a slew of examples that point to full-fledged, highly popular UI systems that can do the same but better and more that you refuse to even take a serious look at, and you seem to prefer to go off hunches and suspicions.

And you know why we care? Why we keep posting, almost pleading you to stop this project? Because you're talented. You don't deserve to spend years of your life working a S***ty side job stacking boxes, eating ramen noodles, working on a project that is pretty much doomed to fail in every aspect other than that of personal development and growth. We want you to create cool stuff; stuff that makes our lives as developers easier, and games better, and all that jazz.

But you won't listen. And that's fine; it is of course 200% your choice. But I feel this thread has served its purpose. You keep asking for more ideas and suggestions on what it could be that Unity is missing from your work, but you refuse to acknowledge anything that we bring up, and this thread just keeps derailing further and further and further.

I know I sound harsh. Most of us do at this point, and I would be devestated to get these kinds of replies - including this one - on a pet project of mine, especially one with months of work put into it already. I do want you to know that we mean well, and don't come from a place of malice.

However, there is no use in asking us questions, only to reject the answers. This topic is slowly becoming a waste of time for many people trying to help you, and out of respect for them I would urge you to either stop asking for further advice on this topic, or to start listening to this amazing group of people who are both developers and potential customers, and who know what they are talking about.

    Best of luck.

I am 100% sure that you are going to sell more copies if you create serious pictures for a serious product, rather than something that has nothing to do with it. If you don't want to spend money, you can create screenshots of your tools and present them in a special way. Or you can get in touch with artists who may create an image for you if you create some (editor) scripts for them.
For the sake of simplicity, I would pick the first one and check whether your asset is accepted like that.

I consciously don't buy products where women are shown as sex objects.

Errr... yea.. slight derail... but that's healthy, when its slight. Like how some Development companies setup a gaming room or the like to unwind in when stressing.

I've read each of the replies... and I've thanked everyone, with positive/constructive/or other suggestions.
I dont understand where you're coming from, or rather your mindset. Its like you've Already Decided, its a FAIL! FAIL, FAIL! Faillllllll! In your heart or mind. But in your responses, your trying to mask it. And I do appreciate you suppressing your frustration enough to try and get your point across. I Hear You. Not just what your saying, but How You're Feeling.

I'm not trying to be dismissive. But I'm an empathic person. So, what i feel, things like hunches, mean a great deal to me. And I feel, kissUI Does have a future, but it might not always be in the spotlight. Its ok. As long as there are people that enjoy using it, i'll keep working on it. Passion! Love! These things hold weight! Just wait and see for yourself, someday kissUI will be mentioned on a semi regular basis. Have Faith! :)

I'll look into using just screenshots... without the superhero. But, trust me, it wont make a difference. :(

Now that you mention it... is there a free tool that creates those 3d Software Boxes with your own logo on them?

Trust me, it will make a huge difference. Of course, it won't guarantee that it gets accepted, but it is definitely good to know what the requirements in the asset store are.
Another important aspect that you should consider is the description. You have created something that can already be done in Unity. You should mention who might be interested in your solution rather than using the Unity UI. What makes it different and what are its strengths.
If you have a feature description that shows aspects that can already be achieved with the Unity UI, there is no reason to get it and as such the Asset Store Team has no reason to accept the submission.

    @Dantus,
I'll tinker with it more, but next time i make a submission, i'll use this image:

Thank you for your suggestions. I'll update the description to include these things:
    - UI which Allows real-time Resizing of kiss-Images while maintaining pixel perfect output,
making it simple to create Desktop Applications.
    - or like the kiss-Text supporting Bitmap Fonts that have RGB effects on them, so that Fill, Outline and Drop shadows can be adjusted in realtime without affecting performance at all.
    ... and the like.

    Thanks.

I made a VLog after certain milestones during development on kissUI (was actually called SimpleGUI).
You dont have to watch it, but ehhh, its there: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiol0qXEOF2RwbHbtiMUSOg/videos

Its not really mission ALLOT! I'm just being self critical when i say it... because I'll always want to make it even better. :)
There are a few things like Prefab/Template support that's pending in my queue. So kissUI can use something similar to a GUISkin, and have the option to override individual GUIStyles in a GUISkin as well. Still brainstorming. :)

I think it's a great idea for you to change the art. it's not the fact that it's offensive but it just seems to be targeting the wrong audience. It would fell really awkward to file an expense report and have that be on the cover.

It's all about context. The topic and reason for this thread is about why it isn't being accepted in the store. People on these forums are the who would be potential customers. We know what exists and what we need.

In that context, it really is not useful. Not now. Maybe in the future if you keep working on it and find a way to add value to it, but there is a very, very long way to go. (If it does 3 years, keep in mind that other products are also evolving )

If you had instead just posted a work in progress thread, looking for feedback and input, the tone would most certainly be different.

I do think the marketing materials are not great, but they aren't the problem, and may not a big issue at all if the tool was useful.

I understand you want to make it your way, nothing wrong with that. But to be a viable 'product' and something worthy of the asset store, it has to valuable and useful to others. It's not there yet.

Take a look at eDriven: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/3796
That is a UI designed for apps, it's free and intensely feature rich. It is also heavy focused on being data driven, which is central to productivity apps. That is the bar for that type of UI. Ugui/ngui are the bar for game use. Until your tool is at least comparable (or offers something critical those don't) it won't have a place on the asset store.

You're not being attacked, and been complimented several times. But you really have to do some basic competition research if your goal is publish on the asset store. Forget the marketing materials for now, they are the least of the problem. Get your tool complete and functional, and with something unique that adds value. Then think about the logo. ;)

    Cheers!

I agree. I wouldn't want that either. Well, unless its an entertainment oriented project. ;)

Well, for reports, wouldnt one of the Smaller images work better? I made sure Not to show the superhero in any of the Other images.

See you assume i'm upset, i'm in no way upset you asked for peoples.....opinion... You seem to be the one upset when people tell you what they think, which makes no sense to me... I also gave you my opinion from someone who has done this for years that I personally would not buy it and I explained why/.. You `asked why did they decline it and then when I gave my reasons, and said maybe they feel the same, you get all S***ty with me.. I'm confused now, do you want peoples opinion or do you want to whine about why they declined it??

Again, I wish you the best of luck as I said before ..

PS: I would hate to get support for this, just to have you yell at people and say there wrong, when I said the pink was annoying, you had a comment for it, being in business you can't treat people that way .. or you will not last.. I'm done offering advice because I doubt your reading or taking in... any advice from people who actually have the experience.

i'll keep working on it. It's my fault for not realizing the AssetStore would have different standards for specific submission. (ex: ShaderForge).
It was presumptuous to think just because i made kissUI ready/stable for a beta, usable enough for Designers to test out its nice Layout system, that Designers could play with the Event Handlers that a kiss Image had... maybe it would impress the AssetStore reviewers to have it accepted, and someday.. after community feedback and countless features, it would shine.

Yes, i'm a little upset... but more so, now disillusioned... because of the different standards, plus... I really dislike how Unity is torturing asset developers with this policy of Not telling us Whats Wrong with the Assets, because how are we suppose to Fix the Bug if we dont know where to put the breakpoints? Ehhh, sorry. I know, Legal dept. has their way right now! Developers dont matter to them so much is the perception, well, by me, maybe a few others. But I digress.

ZG, you've been great. Hats off to you. *bows head*
If only we could bribe an AssetStore reviewer, we wouldn't be mulling over these things. ;D

I just can't agree that the Quality of the Assets Store would FALL because of accepting kissUI, and their sales would decrease because of it. I dont think its the AssetStore reviewers job to determine an assets Worth as part of the Approval process. Just that its free of Malware, Virus, BUG's mostly so it doesnt crash and leave the end users discontent with the Unity Editor experience, Cost maybe.. maybe!, etc... (maybe a few Apple Store vs Google Play arguments, maybe.)

Sure I was upset. But I'm setting that aside and trying to hear what everyone is saying. I'm human too. It seems many developers have learned to block negative feedback by repeating "Its a Business, Its a Business, I need the Money!" I understand. I'm not faulting them. If it works, and it pays the bills, do it.
True, I felt defensive, because I felt they wanted me to Eat The Same Humble Pie, and like it. ;)

Honestly, I am listening to everyones suggestions, positive, negative, critiques, etc... Even the insults. Those don't hurt as much as a polite reply of: "kissUI isn't/won't be Worthy!"

But, I'm cautious not to compromise my own ideals, values. I'm trying to mask them and pretend like I do care about money, since thats what gets into the AssetStore it would seem.

    PS:
    Sorry about the pink thing.
I assumed you read just a few threads above and already saw i replied to another post with a way to change tho colors. And/If you did see it, I though you were trying to be hurtful by demasculating me. :) Sowwy for thinking that. I like to use humor to deflect. :p

Since the Asset Store was started, they have learned a lot and have made many improvements. As such the quality standard was changed as well over time.
I am not sure why you are still complaining. A lot of people in this thread gave you direct feedback regarding improvements and you even got explanations why it is a critical asset, even with those improvements in place.
Yes, the non existing feedback is very unpleasant. I was also in that situation and unfortunately I know very well how it feels. But, it is very unlikely that you can change that.
If you are interested to publish your asset, you either need to get in touch with them again and maybe ask whether there is any chance that it can be accepted or if they believe it is a waste of time. You can submit your asset again with the changes you have made and ask those questions there. Make sure to only write very short text there, because otherwise they will most likely not read it.

If there is a high standard in the Asset Store, people have more trust in it and the likeliness that they spend money is raised. Having a consistent and high standard is an advantage for both publishers and customers.
It is the Unity Asset Store and as such Unity can decide how open it is supposed to be for submissions. They make the decisions and everyone who doesn't want to accept that is in the wrong place.

Yup the asset store said they were going to have better standards because I complain all the time and I bet many others have so this had them maybe open there eyes to all the junk on the store.. and unprofessional assets with no support...

As i'm a professional and went from AAA to indie, we are small, so when we spent our hard earn money, I have seen to many assets as of late give no support and frankly i'm sick of it.

People tell me in email the reason they do not give support is its a hobby to them, well good then say that before I buy it, so I don't buy it... To many people who make assets think , we are all doing this for `a hobby they are wrong.... I no longer buy assets any longer unless its old and has a alot of good reviews and the dev has been around for years and its update is current and they are super active ... Other wise I WILL NOT use it again... Since Unity 5 I have seen a few known assets stop logging in and leave us to fend for our selves to fix there mess. in the end, I end up making my own tools anyways.. Sad that it has come to this... Thank you Unity and the asset store glad to see this, now clear the junk off and unsupported stuff and we will be happy!!

Sorry to hear other hobbyists didnt continue to support an old asset. Life must have gotten in the way, or maybe no one else was buying the asset, and maybe money for it was drying up? And like you and many others, they need to get paid if they are to continue to devote time and effort to it.

See, it doesn't make "Cents" *bad pun* to continue supporting it. :p
I didn't know any of this, but that's what I though might be happening. I'm kinda new to Asset development, and the Unity community. I'm a little surprised the Unity Asset Store doesn't have an option available to auction off no longer supported assets (others Asset Store devs can pick them up on the cheap with all the source). Or any kind of alternative to keep existing assets in the running.

I've seen many companies separate Dedicated/Direct Customer Support from the cost of the product. Makes allot of "Cents". ;)
Do you Really Feel ENTITLE to FULL Direct Support if you pay a One Time small fee of $20+ for an asset, for the LIFE of the Asset? if you say Yes, well... you're the reason those assets were Abandoned!

You can argue the Asset Store devs could have bumped up the VERSION after adding one or two new things to it, and sold it again for slightly smaller price, but people will complain about it too... Am I wrong? :[

Is there a solution? Not sure. But, I would not feel entitled to direct customer support for the LIFE of the asset, maybe for the 1st 3 months after purchase??? I dont know how long is fair. Cost Based? :p

You're bringing up very valid points there, but I don't think they should belong to this thread.
