I wish there was a simple guide explaining taxation for video games.

Lol. I don't think there is. Video games by their nature are often sold across international borders. That makes thing complex. It's why getting a publisher (even if it's steam) can be useful. There are also accountants and lawyers that specialise in the gaming industry.

On the other hand, chasing taxes across international borders is also a pain. The big boys are currently harassing Google and Apple and the like. As long as you keep your own tax department happy, you are probably fine. And there are plenty of guides to keep your own government happy.

Which reminds me. Probably time to track down and fill out my NZ tax return. I moved countries, started renting out my house, got a redundancy payout. This one is going to be messy.

Steamspy now says that this game has sold over 1,000 copies (what's the actual amount?), and it has 48 reviews, mostly positive.

Interesting - I'd never heard of Steamspy. Most of my stats look fairly accurate on there. Pretty handy little tool.

It says 912 ± 727 so that means between 185 and 1639. The actual number is 531 so it's not wrong. So looks like Steamspy is pretty accurate.

(I think that's enough stats for now!)

I just want to add one thing. You have a positive comment by Jim Sterling, which is hard to come by these days :)

I believe it's sarcasm. But you can't really tell with Jim. Everything his says sounds is sarcastic.

Ha ha! I suppose there is little value in such stats compared to folks actually building a game. Kind of like "putting the cart before the horse", "counting your chickens before they hatch" and so forth.

Anyway congrats on doing it. You must be in the top elite % around here now!

Nah, I'm sure there's quite a few people on here doing much better who haven't [been silly enough to] revealed their identities. Maybe Hipocoder's real name is Notch... you never know!

How long did your game stay near the top of the "New Releases" category? I'm trying to figure out how Steam decides placement for games.
