Hello everyone. I am a 14 year old and I've just finished my first game with Unity. It's pretty much the Roll-a-Ball game with much more features, etc. I've been teaching myself C# along the way as I made the game, and I'm pretty proud of it for my age and training level :D

Here's the link to the project.

Thank you to anyone who plays the game and if you can beat it, consider me impressed, as some of the levels are a brutal difficulty level!

Age is but a number, using it to get less harsh opinions or whatever. You have no reason to post your age in the opening line of your post, or at all.

Thing is, I've seen dozens of posts where people say "Oh I'm this age and I did this". The way today is, youtube is around, digital tutors is around, and so on. Age shouldn't matter. If you can type on the internet, understand what people say, it shouldn't matter your age. Being it 10 or being it 70.

You're right :/. I didn't try to mean it in a way like that, though.

While I sort of agree with Khelton, at the same time, age often correlates with experience and/or skill level. Someone who has been doing it for 30 years typically will yield better results than someone who picked up the craft six months ago. That being said, there can be a lack of knowledge or creativity at any age and there are also those who are born to do what they do and can become "experts" in a very short amount of time.

Bottom line: Is it needed? No, but the kid is proud of what they have accomplished comparatively speaking to others their age and in my opinion, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. (Just keep in mind it isn't necessary ;) ) As long as you have great work, nobody will ask!

By the way, some constructive criticism would have been more beneficial than an arbitrary comment about their age. On that note, I thought the game wasn't too shabby. A few features I might add: a simple timer and a local scoreboard to see how quickly you can beat all of the levels. Also, I'd tone the music down just a notch or bring the volume of the cube collection up a tad. Keep working on it and see how far you can take it :)

I agree with ZefalisDesign 100% . Good job nightbane30. I understand you want the minimalistic look in your game but try adding some textures and materials, I think it will look better

Good job, I like the game. It's very similar to my favorite game from 20 or so years ago called Marble Madness. I loved that game a lot lol! Just like your game, it's about controlling a ball's speed and velocity as you avoid obstacles and falling off of the ground.

For a first project, that's a pretty good success I say. My only thought is that it probably would be nice if you had a way to control the camera so that you can see whether what you're trying to go to is on a lower level or not (I didn't seem to find a way to control the camera). There were times when I got confused as to whether a platform was below me or not, but fortunately I saw a shadow which hinted to me that it's probably lower. A simple camera that can orbit around the ball should solve this easily.

    Have fun:)

Nice game NightBane. Good simple solid concept! :)

I also think age doesn't matter these days. But I rather see young people do interesting things and engage their brain than waste their time. So kudo's to you. (Apart from the fact you have more free time than us old-timers. But we wont hold that against you. much:)

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I'm actually learning how to do timers and such right now, so I agree that adding a timer to compare scores with others would be a nice touch for the competitive gamer!

BTW, I love Marble Madness as well! That was a great game ^^.

Great work Nightbane, I'm impressed. Don't worry about what anyone says you did an awesome job. I'm looking forward to seeing your future work. BTW I got to level 19 before rage quitting lol.

@KheltonHeadley Although it's bad form to display one's age, it's even worse form when someone in the unity community chews out another for achieving a great feat. The reality is, what he has done is something worth encouraging. Just because there are infinite resources online doesn't mean anyone can do this sort of thing, if that were the case then everyone would be writing code and designing good levels. He took the time and effort to learn skills that will benefit him greatly in his future. He's got such a great head start on life, it's quite admirable. Regardless of his age or anyone else's, Nightbane has great potential to achieve amazing things. This community should be encouraging people... a Troll Free Zone where we as developers come together and continue to share a common interest, "making awesome games" in a fun and friendly manner. And in all honesty, I think it's more impressive when the youth can accomplish more than some adults, just my opinion.

    Well done Nightbane!

So? Its fine to post your age, sometimes people would like to know how old you are. especially if its a child who has created there first game, they want people to know so they can see what even younger kids are capable of! Don't Discourage someone when they are looking for feedback on there game. when a developer posts there game and is looking for feedback, they don't need your objections about the game or anything that may seem negative to the developer. Ive seen a lot of users in this forum do this a lot and it annoys me. and he dose not have to give a reason why he posted his age, it should be self explanatory. Give reasonable explanations on why you don't like what someone is doing to go wow that's just bad. I know for a fact people don't like to work night and day to have someone say that just looks dumb. and We all like to have feed back. So if someone ask for feed back don't rip there head off for things you see and know it doesn't Look like something you would do.

anyways nightbane30 the game looks great. its impressive what kids are capable of making in these days. its very simple, addictive, and very neat level design like B-L-G said. very impressive!

This whole argument is so stupid,

You have to put age into account, it is certainly more impressive if a 14 year old achieves something that a 30 year old does. I can see where you are coming from in that he shouldn't have mentioned it, but I don't think he said it to gather sympathy.

Anyways, regardless of your age, I think it's an awesome project. Better then my first project for sure, hopefully you stick to Unity and we'll see you making some awesome games in a few years!

First off, nice game dude. Simplicity is always the way to start and build foundation. I think it would have been better if the ball would respawn back to its starting position when falling, and then make it lose a life if it does. Once life reaches 0, game over and you wold have to start all over. That would make it more challenging. Also, I agree about the textures. While I do not have any direct complain against it being white, it would have been better to fancy up the game a bit.

Regarding the age, I don't see why it matters. Hey, if he is happy saying it, let him be. We should encourage him/her to help their growth, not criticize him/her for saying his/her age.
