This was a couple hours into modeling my first ever 3D model. It's a Goomba! What do you guys think?

looks good, especially for a first model (the teeth need to be smoothed though : )

don't know what a goomba is but it looks like a squashed mr. potato head to me ; )

Look up Super Mario. Everything will become clear.....

That is a nice Goomba. You should try for the turtles next.

Very nice, drag0nsphere. That's definitely better (and more ambitious) than my first model. I'm curious to see your wireframe. That's the true test of modeling ability and a good indicator whether the object will look as good in a less forgiving real time environment.

Dammit, I just tried holding the alt key and mouse button to rotate him around to get a better look.

This comment is as disgraceful as saying you don't like the Indiana Jones movies .

They're called koopas! Turtles do not walk upright!

As for the model, it's amazing. Best first attempt I've ever seen. You've got a bright future in this area.

oh LOL now i feel lame ; )

i played 1 3 till my eyes bugged out back in the day (didn't care much for 2) but really haven't touched anything mario since... just not on my mind i guess (but then i wonder why mr. potato head was as its been even longer since i last player with one of those)

    i know, i know - there's no excuse for this. -2 gamer points for me ; )

    haha :D

Heres the wire frame, It has a huge polycount (30,400.. look at the eyebrows :) ) because I did a lot of mesh smoothing. This model was never intended for a game so didn't care about the count.

    Thanks soooooo much!

LOL! here is another angle... i can upload the maya files if anyone would like.

Animation looks like it's going well. Your model looks a bit high-poly for a realistic experience. Also, in a real in-game model, the face would likely be a texture, rather than actual meshwork. :) Keep it up though!

    Excellent choice of subject matter.

Concerning the animation: You're close. Make the object stretch vertically according to its y (up/down) speed. Maybe a drawing will help more...
