    Hi

I've imported an object from 3D studio Max(FBX import). When I import it into an empty project the object looks fine and looks like a 3D object.

But when I used it in a project that has water with some environmental parameters I get a flat 3D object as shown below. I'm not sure if its my shader or my lights. I've tried changing various parameters but to no avail.

    Please help.

Consider adding a 'texture" to the surface via the albedo or normal map. That will help - but the other thing it seems there is no shadowing in the scene. Thats why it looks flat. If there is shadowing then - the lighting and shadowing needs adjusted. Start with a default directional light and adjust the shadows. Sorry I can't be more specific. If this is a creative piece (not modeled to be an exact copy of a real thing) consider making the shaft rectangular rather than cylindrical.

Thank you for the pointers. I'll tweak shadows on the directional light to see if there are any The object is a close replica of the real thing. Its a ship's telegraph.

Giving the handle a reflection map/probe might also help. I can't help in this regard (still a little wet behind the ears myself on this specific topic). But may add some detail that reduces the flatness of the rounded cylindrical object.

I did see some improvements but not totally satisfied with the outcome here. Thanks. I'll keep trying.
