Hello everyone :) I am new to Unity and this forum. I am creating a casual infinite runner (flier) style game in which you control an ant riding a mustache pod, collecting mustache combs and mustache wax, and avoiding mustache-shaving utensils. It's a simple score attack game with some collectibles/achievements and addictive gameplay.

This is my first time ever trying to make a game, other than some simple games like tic-tac-toe or whatever. In fact, I never even really finished those. So feedback would be very much appreciated <3

I'm drawing all of the artwork by hand, as it's the only way I really know how to make art. I was really excited to learn Unity can do 2D games now, because I don't know how to make 3D art whatsoever >_> Though I'll teach myself eventually... I taught myself 2D art, after all, and music, sound, programming, etc. so I could make this game!

Here are some screenshots of the various areas you can fly through:

The premise is pretty simple. You can fly up or down, and hazards and combs will appear from the right side of the screen. There are five enemies:

Orange razors: These just go in a straight line at you.
Blue razors: These seem to be just like orange razors, but...?
Scissors: These will follow you for a while, then just before hitting you, wiggle their eyebrows, and then blast off toward you. You can move out of the way while they are taunting.
Electric Shaver: Moves up and down as it comes toward you. Takes up a lot of space, but you can pass through the cord unharmed.
Pink razor: Mysterious enemy that only appears in very special circumstances... :)

You also have a "wax shield" ability. When you pick up a tin of mustache wax, your mustache becomes golden and sparkly. While this is active, you can deflect one enemy instead of dying when you touch it.

Through playing, you can collect "mustache cards" which are like achievements for reaching milestones in the game. The game tracks your best records in a variety of areas, and there are mustache cards for each of these:

There are bronze, silver, and gold mustaches for each.

There is also a "cafe" area, where you can meet a few NPC characters who will give you hints on the game. If you do really well and see all the hints and get really good scores, there's a mini story to uncover there.

One of my favorite parts of the game is the 'dynamic' music.

As you increase your score multiplier, new tracks are added to the background music. When you lose your multiplier, it goes back to the simple snare drum rhythm. So the music will be more exciting and intricate the more points you are winning as you fly :) It's a lot of fun.

Here's a video demonstration of a flight. This is me playing and I've become quite skilled from testing the game (uh, sometimes I get addicted to getting high scores and "test" the game for over an hour...) so it's kind of a very skilled demo. Normally new players don't seem to be able to get even to the "cornfield" area easily. It is definitely a game you have to practice a lot to do the best (which is the kind of thing I like!) You can also hear the music increase as the multiplier goes up. Normally it doesn't go up that quickly, but getting such a high comb~o can do that.

All of the music and even a lot of the sound effects are made with percussion instruments (or synthesized ones). I tried to work in some recorder music, but it didn't work so well, haha.

I do have a playable web build here. I keep it updated so my friends can play the newest version, but I would love to hear any feedback on the game <3

Thanks for taking the time to look over my game <3 I hope to have more info for you soon.

Some screenshots from the cafe mode, now finished :) Here are the characters, and some concept sketches of them:

And here's the cafe music (the "normal" one at least):

The "sad" music can be found over at IndieDB.

I didn't get much done this week because of E3... but my friends and I tested out an Alienware gaming PC by seeing if it could run the incredible MUSTACHE RIDE:

    I guess it passed ;)

A few images of some added features.

There is a playable web build, downloadable windows builds, and a feedback form for people who would like to test the game.

You can find the playable devbuilds and feedback form here~~

There's still quite a bit missing from the devbuild. Various polish things, more sound effects, etc. Please let me know what you think <3 This is my first project and I've yet to get much feedback, so I don't know what others think. My friends and family all say it's really fun and play it a lot, but you know, I'd like to know what people who aren't attached to me and my feelings think~~~ Thanks!

The game is in the final testing stages now. Everything is done, I just want to decorate the credits roll a little bit, and I'm waiting for a couple people to get back to me about how they want to be credited.

Here are some illustrations of the characters:

There have been some really important gameplay changes!! Now, you can equip two wax shields at once (essentially stacking a second one) and if you deflect with the stacked one, you don't lose your multiplier. It's a huge shift in the feel of the gameplay, even though it's largely the same! The game is much more fair, but much more exciting now.

It's really fun. I've become really addicted to it myself...

Here's a video of the new gameplay mechanics in action:

And a bonus video, the game running on a Surface RT:

I could really use some feedback on this final beta build <3

A quick link to it: https://daab4ac223f12686d2c10ace5ed...om/host/0B9j3sAC0v686TlpUUXZpVnBYZTA/web.html

(I've also compressed a lot of the assets and it went from 71MB to 6MB so it will load quickly now <3)
