    LMMS! :D

Unfortunately the LMMS forum is down for the moment. :(
But don't worry, it'll be up as soon again.
So for now, you'll have to visit the Official LMMS Facebook page.

Oh yeah. You can use the Freeboy plugin in LMMS, to emulate Retro Gameboy sounds!

    Hope that helps.
    Bye! :D

How much are you willing to spend? Some one posted a link to pro-tools, but that will set you back almost $700.00 USD.

There are quite a few websites that provide good quality music for commercial use for free.

For music making, I highly recommend FL Studio. It even have quite a few tutorials so learning it will be very easy.

All great things listed here, but you can do almost any of this for cheap. I've use all of the above for a long time, but once I got my hands on Reaper, I wanted nothing else. It's free and does most everything the other programs do. If your going to spend money, my suggestion is to do it on the higher quality VST's for midi (there are plenty of free ones too). Other than that, the other two are definitely great. Though I think Pro Tools initially has bigger learning curve, but is fantastic with the amount you can do. Not sure if it's still the case in 11+, but I remember in everything before 10, you needed an Avid based Midi Interface or it wouldn't work. If you plan to do live recording, then FL Studio seems to me a little beat around the bush on that one in comparison, but is awesome for Midi. Get the trials though, try them all out for yourself and see what feels most comfortable.

Please don't spread the information that Reaper is free, since that is far from the truth. The developers have gone out of their way to make Reaper have a very fair licensing model, but it is $60 for the standard license. In essence, it functions as nagware after the trial period, but it is not free. See the info on their honest business model:

    http://reaper.fm/purchase.php

Having said that, kudos to you for mentioning it! I Reaper is my main DAW and it is highly recommended. I can create all of my music and sfx for my games using just Reaper and a few nice VST's such as Zebra (which is incredible for sound design....the only vst that Hans Zimmer uses btw).

Anyone looking for truly free audio/music tools should check out this blog, as it is the goldmine for free hosts and plugins:

MuLab free, LMMS and Podium are my pick of the bunch if you want a free DAW/musicmaker.

If you want to create old school sfx very easily you can't go past bfxr which is free:

    Well then..

Like some one stated earlier FL studio is great for making music.

For making sound effects Adobe provides some tools for you to use.

    Pro Tools is another option.

There are also free sounds online you can download.

Your totally right, my bad. Fixed. Last time I posted on it I mentioned all of that, just a slip. Best DAW I've used in the past 15 years of writing music. Will never go back.

If youve never made music, dont bother. buy someone else's.

It takes years to get to a point where youre not creating absolute rubbish. Take it from someone who had a very musical up-bringing, got into making EDM. Even being musical it took a few years to get to a point where the stuff I made sounded professional.

If youre still gonna do it anyway, start with something simple like reason.

when youre ready to produce something of quality (ie committed to making music), switch to cubase.
