I've owned the perpetual license for the Unity Pro for several iterations now. When they made the offer to move to the subscription service for Pro at a discount I was hesitant, but made the change when they offered Pro for $75 a month. I have an office I work at during the day and my home computer I work on at night. Under the old license I could manage 2 installs with no problem, and shared the drive through my dropbox so each stayed synced. However as of today it looks like the subscription license kicked in while I was at worked. I entered it there on that computer and then when I got home it asked for there it there as well. Well it won't take it on my computer at home, and going to the manage seats says I have none left but I can get another for $125 a month. Is this the way it is suppose to work? I feel duped and utterly confused at how to manage the licenses. I don't even see a way to revoke the one from work and set it for my home computer. There was an option to clear them in the old version but I don't see that anymore.

Bump. So nobody can answer if the moving from the perpetual version that allowed 2 computer installs for the same key is reduced to 1 when taking the offer to move to subscription?

What I've found so far is that under subscription, my account is tied to 1 specific computer. I couldn't release the seat and reactivate it on my home computer using the same seat key. I had to create an entirely new account and make it part of the first accounts group. That does seam to allow me to switch computers using the same seat. However it is clunky and not nearly as user friendly as the perpetual version was.

I also don't know yet how that will effect assets (as my week is tied up with other things right now) but I will post once I have a chance to check it. But I fear that will mean my second account will not be able to see my thousands of dollars of purchased assets.

So you have a MacBook and want a Windows install and a Mac Install, you need two seats?

I have a mac, but that don't use that except for final builds. No I have a work computer and home computer (both windows and synced with dropbox.) Under the perpetual Pro licnese I could have both of those computers using the same account and key. That seems to not be the case anymore under subscription (so I am seeing, but am looking for a dinfinitive answer. I've also emailed Unity support days ago about this (when I was forced from my perpetual license to the subscription) and of course no answer back yet from them.)

Sorry you made a question not statement. From what I can tell you will need a second account fro the mac or windows machine and have them join a group under your main account. Then when you want to switch you have release one computer and assign it to the other, which will send you a new key for the second computer. You can no longer use the same key (as it is looking) I think each key becomes specific for each computer. Like I said earlier though this will probably be problematic when you goto grab your assets on the non primary account system as you didn't purchase those assets from the secondary account.

My biggest problem with this is that I can't use the same account on different computers. Even if we can only have 1 activated seat at a time, restrict seat accounts PER THE ORIGINAL COMPUTER IT WAS ASSIGNED, is real crap. When we release that seat, we should be able to login to it and assign it to any other computer we want. Not have to play musical accounts.

I hope this is not the case.
It annoys me that I can only have my pro licence active on two machines as it is.

I have a Windows desktop, which lives in my office at work and my Windows laptop which I use at home and a Mac mini for iOS builds (which also lives at the office unless I sling it in my back pack for the weekend).

It is infuriating when you have left the office for the weekend to find out that you had activated pro on the desktop and Mac but really want to do some work from your laptop. I have splashtop installed on all of my devices for when this happens but sometimes I just can't access my remote computers due to network connectivity issues at either end. Aaaargh!

I quite like Adobe's 'sign out of all other computers' option with creative cloud.

I am currently on a pay quarterly deal for unity pro but will probably move on to a plus sub in around three months. Now that the level 11 freebies are gone and I am under the $200k limit it doesn't make any sense to pay double what I need to.

It would be good for someone from UT to clarify your situation.

Eula seems pretty clear that two installations per individual is still allowed. Sounds like a technical glitch.

I should have looked at the eula. Thanks for that, so legally they have to allow 2 installs, but it still doesn't solve my situation with it not working properly like, nor does it fix the lack staff communication on the issue.

It's been like half a week, which is kinda unacceptable turnaround time for licensing support imo.

Perhaps it's because Unity Personnal issues is very low priority.

Except if you'd read the OP you'd see they're using Unity Pro.

It should work. I have one pro license on two computers, and use them simultaneously (pvp testing). They are both macs.

Was the email just about this, or was it with other stuff? It's easy to miss when multiple issues are jammed in one email.

This thread won't help you unless @SaraCecilia or one of the other staff stumble over it. This area is marked as "NOT a support forum". I'd follow up on that email, and also send a fresh one.

Thanks, the email was just about this issue with the seats. I've never needed to contact them about anything else. I'll send another email tomorrow. Is support@unity3d.com the best method?

Sara, I'm running into the same issue as the others on this thread & have emailed support. I don't know the current status of EvalDaemon's support ticket, but my ticket number is 97564. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, your case has been responded to. Our Support team asked you to reply with your serial key so they can return the activations. Do you think the e-mail response is in your spam folder, mind checking?

Is this still the case with Unity 2017? I had 5.6 on two computers without issue, but 2017 isn't being as nice.

I downloaded Unity 2017 on my home computer and when I went to put it on my laptop its asking me to purchase a new license. I'm not sure why this is the case -- do we have to contact support whenever there is a Unity upgrade?

I just ran into this as well. I have a pro license for work. I also have a laptop with work with unity3d. I was granted a desktop machine for home and started installing my dev tools. VS2017 check, Azure check, Unity3d brick wall. I'm not sure why this is. I mean I can only code on one computer at a time. However, now I need to transfer from the laptop to the desktop. This all sounds far to complicated for a product that is basically on the honor system.

It would make sense if there was a manual allocation system (like in Netflix, Amazon or NowTV) where you can simply remove and add machines to and from your license. This is not new, and should be minimal coding. For the free version you could offer two machines and then that is it. If you have a hardware change, you simply remove old, and add new. it would also smooth out the initial sign up, and machine activation. Example free license management software system code(example: https://github.com/apoorv91/LicenseManager). No need to relax the rules, but would make life a bit easier for the customers. The licensing issue is one of the reasons why I am still on the free version.

    Same problem here.

The only easy way around this is to revoke the license on the PC it has been allocated to from the Unity license check window. If you revoke it from the Unity website you cannot use that seat for the same member on another PC.

You can setup a new Unity user account for yourself, use the other account for your other PC and swap the seat between your two accounts. You assets are locked to specific accounts but you can log in to the store on a different account than the one you are logging into Unity with.

Not sure if this thread is dead or not as I see a couple 2018 responses but wanted to throw in my 2 cents and see if it helps anyone else! I thought I was dead in the water like the OP but then on my second machine I went to

Help > Manage License> Activate new License

And used the Seat Key that I used to activate on my desktop (device 1) and voila! I have Pro on both my Desktop and Laptop! Sorry if I misunderstood the issue but it sounded (to me) like the OP wanted to be able to have two computers under one seat per the EULA...and it's possible! Not incredible straight forward though but I guess if you think about how Unity is doing licensing it sort of makes sense?

I seems like even though you assign a seat to your unity account you still need to activate the license in the separate installation instances as they are still saved to whatever your previous license was (Personal in my case)

I was just having this problem.
I had to go here and deactivate an old install at the bottom of the page:

    https://id.unity.com/en/subscriptions

It wasn't exactly easy to find o_O but it fixed the problem!
