Hi, I currently use a desktop at home as my main coding PC, but I also have a powerful laptop that I want to code with as well. Currently I just put the code on a USB stick to move it between the PC's but this is really cumbersome.

Could anyone suggest a cheap (free if poss) solution to simply be able to work on my laptop on the way too and from work, and then switch to my desktop when I get home and carry on?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :)

Try version control, there lots of free solutions out there.

Just google for it, for ex., "svn free"

Version control is probably the best option. It's also possible to use a cloud storage service (like dropbox) for example. It would be easier to setup but you could experience merging errors if you're not diligent with it.

Thanks for the replies, that's really helpful. It seems though that its for the code only?
So am I right in thinking you wouldn't upload all the assets to this, just code only? Or can I simply sync the entire project to something like Assembla ?

Sorry if the questions seem stupid, I am just new to this...

You would upload everything (code, textures, audio, etc) located in Assets and ProjectSettings folder, see here http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/ExternalVersionControlSystemSupport.html
