Moving character downwards

Hello, trying to making a character crouch in maya. When imported into unity instead of crouching down, the legs move up in the animation preview. The torso and head don't seem to move. Not sure if it's a maya or unity issue. If anyone could help, it'd be much appreciated...

 

I had the same problem. If you are using mecanim then you have to bake the root transform position in the Y axis. You can find the option near the green lights under animations.
