I couldn't help but notice that videos don't look very well in Unity. I want to use a 1080p video on a plane to make a fast introduction, but the framerate is very poor even with import quality of 0, and there are compression artifacts even with import quality of 1. Is there a way to get a high quality video running smoothly through MovieTexture?

Well I've tried encoding to ogg myself and ended up with nothing better in the end, whether by reducing or augmenting the quality (still slow and ugly). So I brutally change the texture of a plane every few fraction of seconds to simulate a screen. It's really a shame there's nothing better to render a good video.
