I´ve found some info about guys getting motion capture data from Kinect into Autodesk Motionbuilder, Studio Max and then saving the FBX file. So, I would say, yes, it is definitely possible to use Kinect for motion capture. And this for a very low budget :)) .

I haven´t had time to try it out yet, but I think we´ll be able to use this great tool for our animations.

In my opinion, game-development for small teams / indies is getting better and better nearly every day. Just take Unity for example. Sure it is not perfect, but a lot is possible with it and this for a very fair price. And now we´re getting excited about motion capturing!
This was absolutely not possible for us, because we can´t afford to rent a motion capture studio. I think and hope that by offering these tools to skilled indies we will perhaps see a lot of different and great games or prototypes.
