I believe all this means is someone published to the assetstore using a beta version of 4.6. That being said the new GUI "soon" would be great :)

    noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :(

but each time unity has done a big release ive seen where publishers end up a day or so before the release putting out their stuff for it in trickle

didn't someone at unity approved it...

also author was able to select requires 4.6.0 because i can't even download it... its not just a mistake in the asset description the author must have selected like from drop down 4.6.0 so we must be very close...

and this is the gossip area of the forums, so don't worry you can tell me, i won't tell anyone [but i will post about it ;)...]

perhaps some author will take a peek and see if they can select 4.6.0 (oh how evil) as a requirement for their asset...

that would mean the asset submit tool is already ready for 4.6.0 and they have activated the feature, so 4.6.0 should be close by

Hey guys, I don´t understand why you are so exited and impatient.
What kind of sensation do you expect from the new GUI?
All it will be able to do can already be done by some simple lines of code - I expect.

    However, just my opinion. :)

You are correct in that it won't magically allow us to do things which were previously impossible.

Comparing it to "a few simple lines of code" is missing the point, though. For instance, what about non-programmers for whom there's no such thing as a "simple line of code"? And even though I'm a programmer myself I much prefer visual stuff to be done, well... visually.

The Unity version can't be picked from a drop down. The Asset Store Tool automatically uses the version with which the asset is being uploaded.

Yeah both the publisher and the Asset Store reviewer probably made a mistake there. Publishers do this to ensure their plugins are compatible to new versions when they come out, but having the latest (unreleased at that) version be required is too much.

so how did author manage to say it requires 4.6.0 and not allow it to be downloaded by those with latest 4.5.x

i guess the world may never know...

It will say it requires Unity 4.6 if he uploaded the update to his plugin using Unity 4.6. He is likely a beta tester.

As AnomalusUndrdog, it was uploaded with Unity 4.6 that's why it is required to download it from the Asset Store. Believe it or not, but there are beta testers...

As far as I know it's fine, the publisher will just get reduced custom.

As far as I know, you can't upload anything with a beta version. It was clearly mentioned to those publishers who applied to be on the beta group. On top of that some publishers also have bypass to be online automatically without having to go through the review process... maybe it's now a case by case...

I don't see anything suggesting that this plugin would need to be released with 4.6's GUI features. Seems like they're just a beta tester who didn't bother to upload it using the earliest-supported version of Unity, which is a mistake on their part for exactly the reason Aurore pointed out. I suppose Asset Store reviewers could have warned them that this was a bad idea, but they probably don't bother to look at the version requirement most of the time, and it's not like they're releasing 4.6 source code or some other information we didn't already have.

Okay, let's start a new thread then and discuss how this response could mean that the new GUI has been delayed.

On a side note is there a way to work out the number of threads and posts that have been made about the new GUI?

This isn't the first thing that's gone on the asset store requiring 4.6, iirc.

    lame...
... i hate that crap.. when was 4.6 announced?
    when was 5 announced??

announcement date and release date should be an ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM of 3 months MAXIMUM
#1 thing that pisses me off about anything is early release date announcements...
... and then by the time it comes out i totally forgot i even cared about it....

Actually, from what I can tell, Noesis is a more or less completely different sort of pipeline, more similar to how you'd commonly make interfaces for non-game software. If I'm right about that a) it justifies the high price tag compared to the other available GUI systems and b) I would give it strong consideration for some types of project regardless of availability of the new system.

Edit: In fact, I just purchased it. ;)

I have Noesis as well and yes it is a totally different work flow, I like it though it does take getting use to. It is somewhat like Scaleform though you use Blend to build the UI instead of Flash.
