I am on a Mac running OSX 10.9.5 and I am using Unity 4.6.2. I've trying using the Assets/Sync MonoDevelop Project and I see the MonoDevelop icon bounce up and down but then go away. I've tried launching it directly by double clicking on the icon in my Applications folder but it's won't launch. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks!

When you create a new script, can you double click it and see if that opens it? Other than that I couldn't tell you what to try, I use windows

When I double-click on the script MonoDevelop starts to open up but then closes before it can boot up. Really annoying. Glad I didn't buy Unity.

I tried using MonoDevelop for 2 days, it worked once properly for about 30 minutes. The rest of the time is just crashed and once took the computer with it. So I went and downloaded and installed Xamarin Studio, went to Edit->Preferences->External tools and pointed it to Xamarin Studio. It's not perfect but compared to MonoDevelop it's like sliced bread :).

I edited the script file in just TextEdit but Unity didn't like the file after that. No complaints from Unity editing the script file in Xamarian Studio? What is that? Is it just a text editing program?

It's doesn't seem to pick up syntax mistakes with JavaScript so that a bit of a hassle - I have to go through the Unity console to find where the mistakes are before fixing. But with my limited experience with C# it does seem to find the errors and suggest changes. So with JavaScript it is basically a text editor but with C# is seems to operate like an IDE.

I am extremely new to Unity and the book I am learning from uses JavaScript - when I get a little more proficient I will move to C#.

Well your suggestion to use Xamarian works perfectly. Thanks! Hopefully Unity will start working correctly. Do you know if Unity Pro has the same issues? I'd hate to pay for it knowing that it's buggy on the Mac.

I only use the free version, only been using it for about 3 weeks or thereabouts. But from what I've read MonoDevelop is universally panned. From what I can gather most people are using Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft Visual Tools for Unity (both are free, don't quote me on that), but, not surprisingly, they don't work with JavaScript so I haven't gone that route yet. As I move into C# I look further into it.
