Missing Glow Effect

I'm playing around with a lightsaber tutorial that I found online and when I run the demo scene that comes with the project, the sword blade glows like it's supposed to. When I put the same lightsaber in my scene, however, there is absolutely no glow. I've gone back and forth between the two scenes, but I don't see what's making the difference. Any suggestions?
