    Hi,

Just updated to Unity 2018.2.13f. In previous version when I import FBX file I am able to extract materials and applied to the character but since updated to latest version the extract material options, selection does not appear any more . Instead under Material tab it just has Import Material with a tick box. But nothing seem to happen when that it is either ticked or unticked.

I'm having this issue with models imported from Blender, but doing this will work:
    1. Find model in Project view
    2. Click the model prefab's ">" to expand the elements inside
    3. Highlight the Materials you want to extract
    4. R-Click and select "Extract From Prefab"
    5. Navigate to desired folder, click "Select Folder"
Shabango, done. Not sure if this is a new process Unity is trying to implement, but that should be a viable work-around for most people.

Seeing the same issue, in 2018.2.13f. Anyone find a fix for it?

Is anyone from Unity seeing this??

Can't tell you the number of times I update to a new version, thinking: what's the worst that can happen? And then I find out.

A workaround I found was to select the material within the fbx and duplicate it, which pops it into the project unlocked, and you can then assign that material to your object instance.

I am also having this issue, the only option in the Materials tab is a checkbox for importing the materials, despite the fact that the current documentation for Unity shows an absolute wealth of options in that tab, they simply do not exist, the doco "claims" they appear once you've ticked the box, but they simply do not appear.

Thanks for the workaround idea, highlighting all materials in the fbx and using that "Extract from Prefab..." context menu item worked the charm, didn't even need to reassign the materials it kept the references in tact. Thank you!!!

My 2017 version of Unity was actually extracting them automatically when it imported the fbx, after updating to 2018, no joy, maybe that's why the button isn't there, it's meant to now be automatic, but like all automatic things, it can go wrong and we still need the option to do it manually, so it's sad the materials tab has been gutted. at least the context menu still exists!

How is it possible that after all these years we are still trying to extract the textures from an fbx

What do you mean with trying? It works fine if the FBX does include the texture then unity can extract it.

the problem is when the texture is contained in a separate folder, which is the case with most of sketchfab models. However I'm now using glTF

If your texture is not applying in Unity, go back to Blender and went you Export your Model set 'Path Mode' to 'Copy'.
