I've been waiting for a long time (most of a year?) for my Mira Prism headset (which uses your phone and some see-through optics to produce AR over tracked images). Yesterday I got an email saying:

    So I guess that's that.

I was excited about this last year, but that was then, and this is now. I feel like Mira has a very short window of opportunity here — once Magic Leap finally hits the streets, nobody is going to be much interested in a phone-based solution. And for that matter, there's ANTVR, which blew past its KickStarter funding goal in the first 8 hours. And if you really want to use your phone for AR experiences, there are some Cardboard equivalents, not to mention the (by all accounts excellent) Star Wars Jedi Challenges kit (aka Mirage AR), which is widely rumored to be getting a public SDK soon.

So Mira's opportunity was short already, and now I guess they've just given up on it. One less device for us to worry about developing for, I guess!
