This is all we are asking for:



The text is also a bit pixelated, but that's extremely minor compared to the "personal edition" branding.

 

This and only this.

 

Powered by Unity would be perfect. That or nothing but the animation and the logo.
I honestly would not care if I was only making games but as I also create interactive 3d apps (product viewers) for businesses the 'personal' edition thing is a real turn off.
Otherwise I am extremely grateful for what we are getting for free and really hate to complain. sorry.

 

btw Andy, i'd like you to know that i'm not all about doom n gloom

i would personally like to extend my heartfelt thanks on version 5 and all that you guys have done to extend it to those of us that cannot afford a pro license (as of yet). it means a great deal to us that you folks are listening. we don't always see eye-to-eye, but that's ok, we don't have to as our goals are somewhat different, we just have to be able to live with each other.

i ultimately know that you guys aren't out to crap on us 'plebs', but i gotta say, regardless of what ultimately ends up happening, it sure kinda feels that way.. and it's weird how that happens too, isn't it? it's sometimes the most innocuous thing that can set folks off, but there you have it. it is what it is, and i've spoken my piece.. lol, quite of few of them actually.

so now we'll wait and see what you guys do. shrug.

 

Keep it simple:
- No subtitle at all. Just the logo.
OR
- Logo + just the word 'Unity'

'Powered By Unity' is not enough. 'Powered By Unity 5' is better.
5 as a better reputation even it's new. Quantum leap in side.

 

Actually, this too. "made with unity 5" or "powered by unity 5" is better than just "unity". But that's just details, compared to "Personal Edition" !

I'm not bothered by the fact that the program is called 'personal edition', but I don't want it to show that on the splash screen. I loved the 'powered by Unity' from the past. I'd be happy with 'made with Unity' as well. Or no text at all... as long as it doesn't say what edition was used.

 

Would go well with my sexy splash screen!

how about a splash screen like this...

 

Remove "Personal Edition" wording as it implies "not for commercial distribution" as many have said. Replace those words with a) nothing b) anything else that relates to Unity but doesn't make it seem like it is not for commercial distribution

 

Now that requires a bubble with...."Unity: Personal Edition".

 

I wouldn't mind having a Burt Reynolds type character in a star-treky suit thingy lounging on a sofa like he's trying to seduce no one in particular.

I mean honestly who wouldn't I think it conveys to the player that this game is going to be sexy and vogue.

 

But he must wink at you...that would be so cool.

I stated before that since all versions are equal in terms of functionality there should be NO difference in splash screens. Simple.
now let me have some fun since I'm at work with it snows like a fn fiend outside.

That was disturbing. But I do now think that going with that guy, that pose and 'personal edition' might be some kind of internal joke we discovered faster than they expected.

You can call the engine 'Personal Edition' or whatever you want, but no such an inscription on the Splashscreen. No way! I see my clients who says WTF?

1/ First scene - the Unity Logo
2/ Second scene - the logo of my company
3/ Third scene - the logo of my client's company
4/ Other scenes

if I wasn't a Unity developer, I'd probably be thinking this. Personal implies a limited free version ONLY for you to use. Not to be redistributed, sort of like a demo.

 

"Powered by Unity" was OK. "Made with Unity" is OK. I voted for no text, meaning no text beyond either of those or something similar. Best of all, give us multiple splash screen options with differing versions of the text.

But to answer the question with something acceptable to me, and also acceptable to Unity, it would be useful to know why Unity decided to make the change. So can you tell us why please?

I do not mind what the free edition is called as long as customers do not see it, but I can see "Personal Edition" resulting in an increase in the number of forum posts from new users asking if they can release games using it. I don't want to give Hippocoder even more moderating work to do.

"Ascent Edition" would be a better statement of intent.

 

Hey everyone! Sorry, I was going to respond to everyone individually but you all posted so fast and I got pulled into a meeting last minute that went on for a while!

Ok, so it seems pretty unanimous from everyone that has posted in this thread that you desire for:
- Keep the animated splashscreen in Personal but remove the 'personal edition' subtext.
- possibly have the option to change the text: "made with unity", "powered by unity" or similar
- option for Pro customers to opt in the splashscreen (or maybe we put a video of it online somewhere for people to incoporate themselves?)

When I get a chance (probably tomorrow) ill collate everyones feedback that has already been posted here and direct it to those who decide on these sorts of things. I cant promise whatll happen but Ill do my best.

"Made with Unity" sounds mundane

 

While you're on the way to get the splash screen to look more professional, can you also mention that the text is pixelated? It needs to be anti-aliased:



If that's not easy to fix with the way it's being rendered, you could just replace it with a high quality image that contains the same text or something.

 

I like the made with Unity text the best. Would be great

 

It's even more amazing than I imagined, haha.
