    DriftVFX
is proud to announce it’s first Unity Asset pack:

    https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#!/content/33530

    Dark Sand Coast

This pack is based on a Dark Sandy Coastal area in New Zealand, with many stones, boulders and rock formations.

    Texture:
The textural detail of these assets is very high, many with 4k Color/Diffuse and Normal maps.

Combine that with the Ambient Occlusion and Specular maps it provides a lot of detail.

This is provided with intent to allow for high detailed presentation level applications, as well as VR and gaming options. These can be sampled inside the engine to a lower mipMap level for lower spec machines or mobile.

    Model:
The models in this package come from actual coastal rocks. With a combination of professional high resolution DSLR cameras, Drone based aerial photography, and photometry tools. we have recreated the assets as realistically as possible, with a lot of detail provided in the geometry and normal maps.

The base meshes are quite detailed, intended for close scrutiny in game, VR or presentation applications. However they also come with at least 1 LOD reduced version each to allow efficiency where needed on lower spec machines or mobile

To sample a quick demo you can have a look here

    Webplayer:
    Webplayer Demo (220MB)

    Keys:

    Standard WASD
    Return to reset level

Note, this created on a 980GTX machine, with full res textures, lower specs may (or may not) effect the performance of the demo
All of the rock and ground are from the Dark Sand Coast asset pack from VAD Virtual Art Department (A product of DriftVFX)

    Other Asset Store Packages Credits
Special mention for other Unity Store products used in the demo (but not included in the Unity Asset Store Package):

Vegetation (Trees and Plants): Nature Pack by Manufactura K4
Sound: Nature Ambiences-Looping Soundscapes by Soundrangers
Seagulls: Bird Flock Bundle by Unluck Software
Sky HDRI: http://noemotionhdrs.net/ an abundant resource of free HDRI images

    Feedback:
This is our first product release for the Unity Store, so its possible we have not fulfilled all of our customers needs and wants.

We’d be happy to update, modify as needed. And fix any problems that may be found. Please contact us if we can help you.

If you have any ideas for future asset packs we’d be interested.

    Thank you.
We're pretty proud of it, since it is our first actual product release and took quite a while to make (especially in between our day jobs).

    It was the Oculus Demo.
You should be able to get away with some LODs in the distance which should speed things up for other hardware.

Yup. The Asset pack has at least 1 LOD of each asset. Some have 2. So could easily swap them in.
Actually the LOD0 is fine for 90 % of the times. Its my go to

In the mean time our next pack is progressing, and should compliment the first one pretty well. Looks great in VR also

Really loving the look of those new rocks.
They are spot on for the costal rocks that are local to me on the west coast of Ireland.
    Best I've seen yet. :)

    Ha thanks
Im in New Zealand, and just in our small area (Wellington) there are at least 3 distinct types of rocky coast.

I'll try to get these out soon (been a bit preoccupied with Drone stuff)

Did you manage to try the ones you won with the voucher? Keen to know if they are ok and working satisfactory for people

    Cheers

Yes got it downloaded today, plenty of value in this asset. Almost weighing in at 2GB of textures and models.
Demo scene is not complete, so some user finishing required to test.
All I can say is WOW these are the best rocks I've seen to date. Its not only the highly detailed textures, but the models themselves are fantastic. Realistic is an under statement.
I will definitely be getting your next set.

    Thanks John

Yeah the online Demo (web and VR) contains some other peoples asset packages (for sky, veg, and birds) so I cant add them to the pack for sale. I jsut kept the rock pieces and ground in the demo scene so you can at least see how thy could be setup.

    Cheers!!

    Just curious.

What other realistic natural environments would people be interested in. And is it mainly for First person, or isometric style also?

@pjenness - While I really like the detailed, natural textures in this kit, I've also noticed the textures are a pretty big download and long import. Shouldn't it be possible to compress these images with PNG (lossless) using GIMP?

I've not used it, but I understand there is a utility program out there (called something like "image magic," IIRC) that will run all the files in a folder through GIMP automatically changing them from one file format to another (so from TGA to PNG, for instance).

Anyway, thank you for making this wonderful natural scene. :)
