    Any latest outside pics ?

I would like to see a dark abandoned, fairy tale like one with crumbled roofs and round towers and exggerated battlements etc.

Destroyed/ruined fairy tale castle in short :)

    The inside looks stellar btw

Thanks nasos_333. The plan is to make normal castle first, then to create from it ruined version. So it will be 2 levels which may give to game scenario evolution over time.

Great, that is even better :). Cant wait. Also a suggestion, if possible to keep the roofs modular to whatever extend you decide, would be cool. I am working on some procedural tools that will give an extra edge to items in my game and these will work great with separated modular items.

That of course is just a suggestion, if the design is whole model one, no problem either :)

    Thank you Nasos_333 and Hans!

You will be able to add, to move and to remove props or even columns. But main topology will remain the same. You will not be able to create additional rooms and corridors.

I planed this asset as high quality AAA FPS or classic RPG static location. But it will be possible to load parts separately or seamlessly. Doors will have animations.... This is not modular KIT.

What the hell did you do???

As a rule, I don't like it when people use photographs for textures as it is just hard to find decently done seams and wrapping stone around corners...also it is darn hard to find THAT much life like content to use with it. So I see your picture of the front door and I go "Lots of great detail. nice work. Oh, wait, look at the walls... no thanks. Not interested at all"

...then you show the interior and now I have a problem. I don't own a shovel... so how in the world am I going to lift my mouth off the floor? This is most probably one of the best looking assets on the entire store to date! Absolutely amazing! Excellent work!

Thank you for kind words Mr Dode!

I just want to note that there is no pure photographed textures at all. Every texture passed work. Sometimes it took several days to make one. If I was used photographs as is I was already finished this project. :)

I think MrDude means your textures look like photographs (even if they aren't ;-)).
Great job by the way, as usual, setting new standards in the unity asset store.

My English many times let me down.
If someone speaks slang or higher then simple English sometimes I can't understand it...

Sorry Mr Dude if i didn't understand you right.

Yeah, that is what I meant. I didn't mean it looks like you slapped a photo on it and said "good enough", I meant to say "Clearly this texture is from a photo". It's just my personal taste, is all... I love stuff that looks good and REALISTIC but I hate stuff that looks REAL. If that makes sense at all...

I want to go into a fantasy world, not "Wisbech, Lincolnshire". The idea of starting up a video game and walking into the church 3 blocks down the the street from my house or walking around inside my mate's house, one block from where I live... that kind of realism is not something I crave so when I see something that looks TOO real, I just loose interest... But when I see something that is obviously fake BUT the textures are good enough for me to say "That is rock, that is concrete and that is Oak", THAT is what I love to see.

On the first page there is a photo of a castle posted by someone else. He says it is a photo but it looks like something that comes from a game... That is what I love: Not being able to tell if it's real or not! :D

Again, just personal taste, is all. Basically, your walls put me off in certain places (not all, just some. Some look great), everything else I love to bits! :D When I look at your kit, though, I think back to the Elder Scrolls Online beta I participated in a few weeks back... The game was fun but the graphics looked absolutely 4th rate S***... Now, if they had used your kit, though, that would have looked a lot better... too bad the characters still look S***... but if they used your queen... lol... :p

So yeah, I can definitely think of at least one AAA title that would have been a lot better if they had used this instead...

    Thank you MrDude!

I am agree with you. Photographed textures used on 3D model as-is looks poor. Hard to understand why it happens. My explanation was that because 3D Models and animations don't looks enough real so far, real textures make dissonance with them. So degree of realism mast be more or less the same of every visual elements. Otherwise it looks like fake.

Thank you for kind words again. It give me will to continue make this level. Sometimes I have serious doubts I can finish it at all, especially when I think about to convert location from 3D MAX to good Unity asset.

One question... is this in Unity 4 or is this still using the Max renderer?

Have you ever tested this in U5 yet? Would love to see what this looks like in U5!!! :D

Its 3D MAX render. I hope Unity will give me ability to use many lights. I need about 25-30 only for throne room. Of course lights may be tuned of and on per zone.

I tested in Unity only window lights effect... It works. :)

Well, U5 is available to pre-order customers now so hopefully you have U5 now and can do a few shots of that sometime so we can see what the new lighting system will do with this kit! I am super excited about the new lighting system and excited about this so it would be good to see the two together...

    Thank you Archania!

I am running but think it will not be finished to Christmas. :(
Maybe first I will make pack Castle interior only.
Anyway there are two different light approaches for interior end exterior need.
    Lets see...

I don't like the name.... Let's rename it, shall we?
I vote for "Ratkin Castle" or "Ratkin Lair" ;)

Does this mean that you will be moving away from your cartoony style characters now also and start making more "real" looking characters to populate this with? Like Dexsoft's characters, only better ? ;)

Somehow, this just doesn't feel like a Ratkin Lair... there is no space in the back of the throne for the tail to fit through.... ;)

Wonderful as always. :) Thanks for all your hard work.

BTW, I just love your textures, especially the wood texture on the furniture. I have looked all over for a texture like that. :) Is it your original texture? If so, is it something you would consider selling in a package? Most wood textures seem to be planks or new wood rather than nice scratched finer grained wood you have here.

Lets see about the name. Currently its just Humans Medieval Castle. Abandoned version will follow. So maybe we will make competition for the best name. :)

The second question. Yes I am moving to more realistic stile. Actually I never wanted to be so cartooned like in my Goblins Army. This cartoon stile is direct inspiration of WOW I played to much that time. But I finished with WOW. :)

    Thank you Teila! :)

All me textures is combination of pictured textures and hand work of one or another kind.
So they may be divided in main categories:

    1. Per-Object textures. I make it for special object depending on UV coordinates. Such textures hardly can be used on another objects. But they are most beautiful. All my furniture and props use such kind of textures.

    2. Generic textures. Sometimes you need to texture big areas like walls, floors, rocks, grass...In this cases I use generic tillable textures, which really can be sold as texture packs and used to texture many other things.

When I will finish Castle location I will make pack to sell it.
At this moment I have several textures and packs here, which I used to make my old locations:

Thanks. :) I use both tiled and non-tiled "special" textures as well so I understand. I will have something else to look forward to besides the castle then!

I have looked at your other textures and they are great as well. I see some I can definitely use.
