I am a level designer so a lot of my field of interest involves making maps. Now I want to ask if you think it is better to make low poly maps in side unity or would it be easier to use a different program and import them. Of course this is when you have an artist working with you to step in and apply unique fells to the areas you make.

I can see going either way actually because it depends on what you are doing. If you are mapping terrain, use the terrain editor that comes with unity. For trees and the like you might as well use the tree maker inside unity also. If you want to do anything else it would probably be best to use an external modeling program.

Outdoor, landscape maps - Unity, Indoor or outdoor urban maps - 3d software.

Agree completely. That's exactly what I do.

    I agree.

Unity is good for terrain. For everything else, use 3d modeling software.
