Hi, I'd like to start making some money off Unity Assets by selling my own. I was wondering what kinds of softwares others use to develop assets. I am aware of Blender for making meshes but are there any others? Also please let me know what kinds of assets people would like to see and what price you'd pay for them.

    Kind Regards,
    Jana1108

Price depends on the quality of the asset and what the asset actually is.

Look through the forums for common issues & see if you can come up with a solution for them, then check the asset store to see if someone else already did it. Looking at the asset store, there's lots of stuff already so you will need to find what's missing.

Personally I dont know why people ask to see what other people want in the asset store.
Try and look for an unsaturated market for a particular asset, assuming you're doing modelling based on the first post, I know that there arn't many weapon attachment assets on the store, would be smart to go into that maybe ;)

Or create a portfolio & link it in a post in the collaboration or other section where you are seeking work

Ok thanks for your help :) Let me know if you have any other requests. In the meantime I just started this blog and I'm in the middle of uploading my first asset now. Do you know how long it takes for assets to be approved?

Well it took me 4 weeks to get mine approved due to being around the christmas period and because there were some 'issues' with its naming (apparently the name was copyrighted which im 95% sure it isnt :p).

Oh thanks haha. I've just submitted mine for approval and it said it will take around 5 business days but possibly longer. Here's hoping it'll be worth while :)

Be ready for rejection. Lately unity has been setting the bar for store entry really high.

That's good to hear - just what the store needs.

How likely do you think it is that my assets will be accepted? I'll private message you the ones I've submitted...

You add textures within unity, unwrap the uvs in blender.

In general what I'm hearing is art assets need to be game ready. That includes full PBR texturing, rigging and a selection of appropriate animations.

If you're just starting to learn 3D modeling now, be aware that you will probably need months of practice (at least) before you're at a level where you can submit stuff to the store.

You do understand that assets you want to put on the asset store must be your own creation correct?
On your blog you show your asset "Ram + Creatures"...
Those are the characters from Yo Frankie.

These assets are published under the Creative Common License 3.0.
So you can use these commercially as long as you give proper credit. Still questionable they would accept that, if it's publicly available for free.

And there is no way that those other assets get approved...
The "City Landscape" is a google maps picture.. The "3d hoop" is something even a newbie could create in Blender under a minute.

Not sure if this is just a trolling attempt. I could assume that, looking at the "3d hoop" description.
But if not, let me tell you this. There is no shortcut to make money with 3d assets. It takes hard work and months of learning to make worthwhile game assets. You should start from scratch and build slowly and steadily a portfolio with assets that have actual value.

Yes, but they must retain the cc license. Asset store stuff for sale uses its own license. You can't remove or restrict the license when redistributing. I don't think the asset store license allows for redistribution.

Even if that weren't the case, it's a dick move grabbing free stuff from the internet and reselling it like that.

Even using textures from the Internet for your assets you create can cause issues

    That's true.

And it's definitely not cool. Even if they would allow that.

    this is valueable advice.
i don't know if you really want to start a carreer in game development or if its just a thing you try for 1-2 months and then walk away, but if you should ever want to work in games, you better stop selling stuff you did not make.
the game development world is not that big and things like this will haunt you a long long time.

and i am not even talking about the moral aspect here.

Okay. The quality if these assets doesn't appear good enough for the store.

And if they are ripped, as seems to be the case, I would withdraw the application now before you end up with a ban.

Most people ask which 3d software to use before they try to sell their first 3d model, so this thread has a confusing chronology. I get the feeling that you are really young. It's great to have an entrepreneurial spirit early in life. It could serve you well in the future. But you must be aware of the differences between a professional outlet like the asset store and a lemonade stand. Keep the entrepreneurial spirit, but temper your expectations while you learn your chosen craft. The time you spend learning isn't a waste, it is an investment. Don't rush things.

On a side note, I think I know why asset store reviews take so long now...
