This may be in the wrong area of the forums, and I apologize if so, but this is my first post, so you'll have to excuse me. I am a total beginner to Unity but know some basics because I am an intermediate designer with Unreal engine (lots of engines use the same basic controls). I wanted to do a GTA like game for a first game. Is there any tutorials? It would be like in a city. I will put a list below of exactly what I want. Thanks!

    Need:
Third person with unlimited weapon holding
    Money
    Shops
    Health (no XP is required)
Cops that chase the player when a player kills someone, hit and run etc., in a car or on foot (trigger events, do not know C#, only Java)
    A cell phone menu system
Quests from characters (we'll call them missions)
Boats and cars that are driveable
A generic "hey" or scream when the player terrorizes the city
Borders so they cannot go past a certain point
Cars driving themselves so it feels real, to add on, basic systems of people and cars to make the game seem like real life

    Thanks again!:D

Also I am using Unity free, newest version, and would considering buying it if this goes well.

Wanting to look for tutorials - Good.

Choosing a GTA type game as your first project - Bad.

Start with something way smaller .. do a few prototypes if needed and most importantly complete a game start to finish. Then decide on the next level of scope.

There a Youtube series that allows you to download a Unity GTA style Project. You could study that to learn. I would start with the Unity Tutorials in the Lean section of the Unity website before hand though if you haven't already.

Here is the video with download info.

    Good look and enjoy.

The fact that you say you know Java means one of the following:
    - you do not know javascript
    - you do not know that unity doesn't work with Java

    Java != javascript!

This project is waaaay to bit to begin with. Start with something smaller and build you knowledge up

True, but C# on the other hand is quite similar to Java (except you don't have this stupid one class per file limit and bit of syntactic sugar). In any case, though, GTA clone (even if we are talking about cloning early, 2D GTA) is just too much work for first game.
