    Thanks!
Too bad that your website is tagged with "Games".
I'm work right now.. I'll check it later at home ;)

Where and how is it tagged? :p

I'm constantly updating my website to make it work better. If it's tagged in such a way that it's hard to access from work networks then that's of course undesirable. If it's just because of the content on the website then there's not much I can do about that. :)

    Huh, thanks.

I'm a web developer by trade so I should be able to figure that out. :p

Originally I only posted work related things on there and I don't think I've done anything actively to tag it as a games site. I will check it out. It's not something I want if I can avoid it at least. Unity development can be much more than games.

I found a tagging service which has tagged my site as "Games" where I can submit another tag. I'll try that. Unity is tagged as "Technology/Internet" by the same service which I feel is a better tag for my site as well.

But I also noticed that the most significant keyword for my site is "game". Perhaps I should be more conscious about using "project" instead. They may be auto-categorizing it based on content and there's no doubt there will be mostly games on my site. :p I'll test some things out. These things usually take weeks to update, but hopefully I'll get it sorted in the end.

    Thanks for the heads up.

If it's not too much to ask could you check my website from work again when you have the time? :) I actually got hold of someone from that service and they recategorized my website as "Technology/Internet". It's a shot in the dark seeing as your work proxy would have to use their service, but if it actually worked that would mean it worked for a lot of other people as well. :)

It's well done. I like your coding and the good commenting.

Thanks. It's a bit convoluted to be honest. I wanted the day night cycle script to be as simple and bare bones as possible, but I based it on a script I already had made for a 2D game I'm making. And it ended up becoming a bit weird in the end.

Check out this tutorial by Glen Rhodes:

He made the video that originally inspired me. And in the tutorial he shows a script which at a glance looks simpler and much more customizable than mine. He also goes over a few other cool features in Unity 5.

I really appreciate the time people spend making good tutorials. And I especially love that you actually took the time to TYPE your tutorial, rather than making it in video form. I can consume a well-written article with figures about 100 times faster than I can consume a video, especially when you consider going back to find the one key bit I missed the first time through.

    Kudos!

I'm considering getting a microphone and/or camera to try and create some video tutorials / screencasts. English is not my first language and I think I would be really bad at that sort of thing so I've never considered it. But I think it could be a really valuable skill to have.

But you're right. I love written tutorials. I love writing and I strive to become better at it. I'm working on a dedicated tutorial section for my website which will allow me to create more elaborate tutorials like the ones Jasper Flick makes: http://catlikecoding.com/unity/tutorials I also made some effort yesterday to make sure my website prints properly as well if people prefer to read on paper.

Haha, that's amazing. The internet is so weird sometimes. :p

That's not even the best reason to avoid video tutorials. The main one for me is: How the bloody hell do you search in a video?!

Good point. And that video took me about 5 hours to make from start to finish - so I probably could've written an article in the same time. Two different ways of looking at it, I suppose. I wonder if it's possible to make subtitles searchable.....

It's less the employer and more the firewall service and what categories the employer wants blocked. My current client uses Sonicwall and it's a p.o.s. Firstly, they block basically everything. Games, tech, social media, shopping, health. All of those categories get blocked. As a developer I'm on a no block list but the system doesn't allow adding exceptions for an entire AD group so users have to be added individually. Now, I belong to the group that gets filtered and individually have an exception. Problem is, the filter goes nuts and just starts randomly blocking us from everything for no apparent reason.
