Are there any Unity Mac devs out there doing VR?

I assume I at least need an eGPU box to get some decent graphics. The sonnos was good I heard.

However since eGPUs came out, they all seem to require an external monitor, so having a 5K screen seems to make it even more complicated.

I also have an HDMI-monitor on the side if that helps.

Also does any eGPU and Unity work with bootcamp? Since I’m thinking of developing in MacOS, then building and testing for Windows to then release on Steam VR.

Since I work mainly on Mac, having an extra PC on the side would be awkward, especially since the 5K screen only works on Mac.

i would love to hear any solutions you Mac VR devs have found!

I'm a Mac dev, but so far my VR development is only for Oculus Go (which is a pretty great platform IMHO).

I do do Windows development, but not via Bootcamp; I just use Parallels. This works quite well enough for testing. I have an external (HDMI) monitor, but not an eGPU, so I can't comment on that.

I hope any of this is helpful!

you dont need a 5k screen

I used an egpu with a old cinema display and it also worked.

and perhaps the vr headset can be seen as an external display too, so in that case you dont need an extra screen at all.

here you can have a look too, for info about bootcamp

Aha, I already have a 5K screen, and it only has Usb-c connectors, don’t think it will work in windows though.

But I guess I connect the egpu out to the vive, but what will happen with graphics on the macbook screen or the 5k screen? Will it still use the egpu?

Thanks, but can you play windows vr games through parallells? Is it powerful enough? Since most vr titles are for windows..

I will read up more on eGPU, i read about it when it was new and there were kinda hacky..
