The only problem I have is you never know what the themes going to be and if you can come up with a cool idea. This time Im going to wait until the theme is announced before even thinking about a game

I really like the constraints the themes place on people. Never participated in one of the compos yet but it has to make people better game designers. Particularly the people who participate often.

I need to write down these short lists of themes and make a point to build some simple games around them sometime. I think the 2-button controls would be a great constraint to work with.

I'm a regular at LD so count me in, but I really need to do a warm up game.

I would highly recommend building a quick full and complete warm-up game just to refresh yourself with the tech especially if you have been working on longer slower projects.

So what free Unity tools/libraries will you be using, the rules allow you to use existing free and available code and any tools?

So you can power-up your game development with any free tools/libs on the asset store. You will have to build/make your own textures and models thought.

I'm going to have a look at Fungus and the new in Alpha 2D tools, what will you use to turbocharge your games development?

Don't be put off we all have our own strengths and weaknesses LD is a test for you to find yours and others to find theirs.

Check out previous winners, graphical simpler and less action oriented or slower games tend to win. You have to appeal to the masses even in LD.

One nice thing about LD and most other compos I've seen is they focus on the actual game itself first and foremost. I think LD even has it on a page somewhere that not only is programmer art welcome but in fact they love programmer art. Although you could try to deliver awesome visuals really it's an opportunity to focus on the actual game itself the cool concept, gameplay and so forth. There have been some very interesting games come out of these things that went on to become hits.

lol i take way too much time doing 3d model and animating .. lol and its the first thing i do before coding anything

i have a really kickass idea... too kickass for like Just 2-3 days .. even a week of work lol
but hey i wouldnt've had the idea at all without "growing" as the theme

:/ .. like i could get the basic prototype done in the remaining time for Jam ... buuut... i just dont like the idea that its super rushed and no polish... soo.. meh i wont release it for LD .. i think?

    what u think?
LD is good for people knowing about it id imagine? .. but like, if its just gonna be super rushed.. like whats the point? lol

i work SUPER SLOW .. cause i like do things 3 times to get it right lol

@CaoMengde777 Although I've never participated in one of these things yet I can certainly see it as a fantastic opportunity to prototype an idea focusing only on creating an MVP. Then you get all of the voting and feedback. If you're in the top 50 you probably already have a tiny group of people who like the game. If you're in the top 10 or 5 a lot more people who already like it.

And for the top 20 or higher it seems like you could use that in your marketing to give some credit. "Ranked #12 out 493 entries at LD34!" or whatever. That's a good thing because it is one of the few ways a completely unknown dev can show some sort of 3rd party "endorsement" which should help to get more people (YouTubers, article writers, etc) willing to spend some time on your game (later when you complete it). And of course, it gives normal gamers another reason to spend 5 seconds to check out your game.

That's the big thing to keep in mind I think. Once the LD is done if your game has proven to interest a good number of people and ranked in I dunno maybe the top 25 you can then spend all of the time you want on the graphics and polishing everything as much as possible.

Hi guys, so I posted my LD game, but can't figure out how and where I should publish WebGL build. When I tried locally build and run, it gives me browser with working game (little bit choppy, but ok). When just running index.html locall in browser, it gives blank canvas for a game - and same when I pushing it in hosting I used to publish WebPlayer builds. Any idea if WebGL can work on GDrive or Dropbox? Or is there some hosting Unity provides..

    That's simply sad.
People can use only few models or textures, but gorgeous instead of lazy graphics.

Ha ha. It's a matter of perspective. I don't see focusing on the actual game instead of the graphics as laziness. Basically I think they're looking at it like you've only got 2 to 3 days focus on the game a cool & interesting idea, get as much done playability-wise as possible. It's not the time to be messing around trying to make shiny graphics. People generally focus on the graphics above all else all of the time so I find it a very refreshing thing.

This is actually very interesting. I must admit I never succeeded in hatching an egg and instead killed all of the dragons I tried to bring into the world.

It's a cool concept though with the fire and ice. I think this is what I like best about these game jams is just seeing all of the cool ideas people come up with. It's very fresh and different from the norm.

Very nice twist on pong. The idea of simply adding the rotating basket is excellent. Also like how the game gets harder or at least stays fresh due to the other objects appearing at later stages. Great job!

Whenever I feel like my brain is getting too filled with textbook game design junk I like to play games like these from the LD and other compos. Because they are great lessons in creativity and game design.
