Low Poly Waterfall

    Hey,

    I am making a low-poly game, and I need an animated waterfall. I know you there are many tutorials for animated water, but thats al for high poly, realistic water. Does somebody know how to do it in low poly?

    Is there any reason not to try the "high poly" tutorial and see what the result looks like?

    I really look forward to seeing a low poly waterfall... keep us posted : )

    Well. That's exactly what I mean. The effect may look quite different depending on the definition of your meshes. So maybe it's actually worth a try? Or do you have an example showing what you are trying to achieve?

    Hey wait... where's the waterfall example :D ?

    Not the blue balls I hope.

    If you mmh, can show how the water should look like (maybe with a 3 frame GIF animation?) somebody (me?) might suggest a way to implement it.

    I Will show you later. No that is not the waterfaal, but only the graphic style :p

    The low poly would really be the same but with a simpler mesh...surely?

    Jonny means (I think), try the high poly tutorial but use a low poly mesh instead, which from the look of your sample, may actually work, and is what I was trying to tell you except I'm so distracted I forgot to write "try the high poly tutorial with a low poly mesh".

    This is a solution to a non physics based waterfall, not a dynamic one, consider adding a mesh based particle system to add some fake foam at the end. This method will work for animating any low poly fluid, especially one that moves

    Oh. You would not believe. But I've had the exact same problem. Here's what you need to do, first,
    1: download blender.
    2: sculpt the base shape of your waterfall (this can be done by thinning out a cube then extruding one side and rotating it until it looks right)
    3: add a remesh modifier, be sure to set the octree depth to just low enough that you can see the whole mesh, but no higher.
    4: apply the remesh modifier. Then ran into edit mode, if the mesh is too dense, apply a decimate modifier and set it to un-subdivide, be sure to have the mesh's vertecies and faces evenly spaced
    5: add a displace modifier, click on the box to add a new texture, set the type to clouds, then adjust the settings until it looks good
    6 set the texture coords to global, not local, then animate the mesh to move upward with some key frames, then export as an animated mesh. That can then be imported into unity
