Blocky view is possible for meshes with perfect quad vertex/triangle layout and need appropriate texture to read quad color data from.
Such meshes can be made only by hand (like Synty Studios does) or generated procedurally.

For almost 99.99% of other meshes what you are asking for - is not possible.
For example simple rock mesh used in example scene and its vertex layout:

    upload_2019-10-2_16-1-27.png

While it is possible to detect some quads here, final blocky view still will be unacceptable.
So this tool does not offer such feature. Instead it creates "low poly" or "flat shaded" meshes by making color of each triangle unique and flattens normal:

Thanks for your reply. I think I didn't explain what I mean well enough. I mean is there an option to make the mesh look even lower-poly?

With this tool - no, as the only other way is reducing mesh vertex count.

You can upgrade Low Poly Mesh Generator to Mesh Materializer, without price lose.
If have problems with upgrade, just just send me purchase invoices of both assets and I will refund Low Poly Mesh Generator.

    Hi!
I have an character imported from iClone character creator 3D via Unity Auto Setup tool. Now I try to use "low poly generator" to make the shirt(skinned mesh) of the character polygonal but after conversion the generated shirt is no longer remain the skinned mesh, rather it becomes a separate prefab without the bones.

Send me your model using support e-mail (support@amazingassets.world) I'll check it.
    I will also need:
    1) Unity version you are using
    2) Render pipeline
    3) Asset purchase invoice

@Arkhivrag - hi just bought this (latest version) asset - I was wondering if it works on character models with skinned meshes too?

Skinned meshes and blend shapes are supported.

Hi, how does it work? Is it converting the high poly mesh to low poly mesh? Something like decimating in Blender? Does the polycount get reduced?

Hi there - just purchased this tool and can't get the 'house' quickstart example to work. After dragging the house into the target area - the 'Texture' pulldown doesn't have anything in it. The docs indicate there would be a selection for _MainTex in there (I'm using built-in RP). Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks-

one more question - if this is used on a skinned mesh for animation, will the mesh still animate as before?

More tech details will help me to understand the problem.

    Unity Version 2021.2.13f1
Render Pipeline URP (I get the same problem in SRP as well though)

I open quickstart scene, open the tool, reset it via context, drag and drop the house and the dropdown for 'Texture' has nothing in it to select.

Hello, I've had this asset for awhile and haven't been able to get it working. I've updated to the newest version now to retry but still have the same issue. The pulldowns for Texture and Color have nothing in them after dropping the sample house into the tool window. Pic attached. This is in a URP project, running Unity 2021 LTS (2021.3.2f1).

What is asset version? You can check it in the Help foldout group.
This problem is fixed in v2022.3. If your are using previous version, re-download it using Package Manager.

    Just tested with Unity 2021.3.3
    upload_2022-5-26_4-17-2.png

Are there any other assets in the project? May be there is somekind of script conflict.
Can you try importing package in an empty project?

Importing into an empty project worked, so I copied the AA directory over to my project and it worked as well! Not sure what was going on there, maybe something didn't update over the old version? Anyway - thanks for the help! Great tool!

What Unity version are you using and render pipeline?
Send me problematic mesh on support e-mail (support@amazingassets.world) with asset purchase invoice and I'll check it manually.

Managed to get it working, thank you! The problem was with a broken "Optimize Game Objects" configuration in a nested prefab hierarchy. Disabling the optimization on the animator got everything working.

    1. Do the models work with single pass VR? I remember trying the demo and the models were causing vision issues in VR. Not sure if it was the shader version or the generator version. I think it was the shader version.
    2. Also, will the Low-Poly converted meshes work with other engines like Unreal or do they use a Unity Shader?

    1. It is just a mesh and works with any types of renderer.
    2. Generated mesh is Unity .asset format mesh. Works only with Unity.

Would this work with the Unity terrain tool, i.e. make a terrain and then use this to make it low-poly?

If terrain is converted into a mesh, then yes.

Can the colors be baked to a regular Texture2D image?

Can the resulting low poly mesh be exported?

Lowpoly mesh is generated as Unity .asset file.

Colors are baked inside mesh, per-vertex.

There is separate asset for exporting per-vertex mesh colors as texture: Convert Vertex Color To Texture
