    Hi All,

I have been doing some research on the asset store and was keen to know if there's a need for more flexibility in sound effects libraries? Currently, the majority of offerings are drag & drop sound effects, so I'm considering putting together an asset package that allows end users to create sound objects through modular construction.

For instance, if you wanted variations for an audio object, would you like those variations pre-made or would you appreciate the option to modify those variations as you see fit? The most obvious example of this might be in the case of audio objects comprising loops. For instance, you would have loops of varying length that can be constructed and deconstructed, allowing you to modify these layers individually (pitch, volume, etc) as well as per each in-game object.

    Object A: Uses layers A, C, D, F
    Object B: Uses layers B, C, E, F
    Object C: Uses layers A, B, F, G

If I were to create every variation using these layers, it would of course be much larger than if the end user had control. And, assuming this is a wanted aspect, these sound object kits could be grouped by aesthetic - sci-fi, fantasy, mechanical, etc.

Curious to know your feedback and suggestions.

    Thanks!

    George

Sounds interesting, however, is this different functionality than that provided by the sound generator asset on the store?

    Thanks for the reply!

In a word, yes. The sound generator tool uses synthesis to generate audio while this would still consist of digital audio files for construction. An analogy to consider would be using Lego. You could either follow the instructions given to you to create an automobile, or you could use the pieces to create your own. Essentially, I would provide the pieces (sound files) that would give the user the opportunity to create sound objects. The pieces would be organized by type/genre and the user can then use them to construct objects using those pieces.

The advantage would be to create several permutations by constructing/deconstructing sound files through layering, looping, etc.
