I wondered if there is a reason OpenXR does not support Linux at all. SteamVR does support linux, and SteamVR supports OpenXR, so that sounds like a possibility to me
This is definitely something I am interested in. I have to keep a Windows VM around for gamedev because of this.
Thanks for reaching out and bringing this issue to our attention. We're currently investigating to what's required to support building for Linux with OpenXR. As we continue to dig into this, it would be really helpful to know more about the specific Linux devices you're intending to build for. This information could aid us in tailoring a more accurate and beneficial solution for your particular needs. Could you kindly share that information, thanks in advance!
I am not DevDunk however the initial support would probably just be able to build for the standalone player for Linux desktop using SteamVR for local development using a Linux supported headset (Valve Index). Currently the OpenXR plugin shows the following: "The only standalone target supported is Windows x64 with OpenXR. Other architectures and operating systems are not supported at this time."
Thank you so much for the detailed information! This is incredibly helpful and will help direct our implementation. We appreciate your support and the information. Rest assured, we'll keep this thread updated with our progress and any updates on our end. We're looking forward to sharing our advancements with the community here. Thank you again for your time and valuable insights!
