Unsatisfactory but working workaround - exporting whole project to unity package and importing in newly created project works.

    In 2020.1.6f1 fixed it by
    Window > Layouts > Default
Don't forget to save your layout before though

Thanks! This solved it for me (I'm using 2019.4 LTS), although I first tried to fix it by simply deleting all 8 already well-placed area lights in the scene. Oh well, I'll just create those lights again. And keep this in mind when not using the Default layout.

I Faced the same problem and for the first time I fixed it with default layout, but failed the next time in my new HDRP project. I couldn't understand why it doesn't work. Accidentally I've found another reason for light gizmo to disappear! When light source is selected in Inspector the Light tab should be expanded! So silly!

For future reference if this happens and none of the other tips have worked ( though this is probably the step you should check first ) ensure you do not have a locked inspector window in the layout, possibly even any locked tab window.

This goes for any gizmo not showing int he scene/game view, where having a locked inspector, maybe locked to gameObject of a different type than that you are trying to see the gizmo for, will prevent gizmos from displaying.

This also explains why reverting the layout to default would work as that will remove locked inspectors.

Bug reported by people (and closed by Unity) multiple times, and still an issue as of today (both in 2019.4.2f1 and Unity 2019.4.21f1 for sure). The layout workaround worked for me.

Most likely this happens when multiple inspector panels are opened at the same time.

I'm on Unity 2021 and this is my pain in the ass since 2017 cause I need my most important scriptable objects locked and pinned to side window for the quick access.

Fun fact that if you expand and collapse back one of the editor panel, the gizmos being shown for one frame and then disappears.

I don't understand why scene view hides ALL component related gizmos if there is more than one inspector opened. Not a bug, but for me it is still not obvious behavior for sure.

2021.2.2f1 here, i'm having the same issue... To use the default layout and reset all of them did nothing.
I have a console error that seems to be related to it:

One basic thing to try is just click on "Gizmos" in the top right of the scene window. This toggles hiding and showing gizmos.

2021.2.2... turning off the gizmo in the drop down brings back move/rotate etc but the other stuff goes away (camera frustum/audio ranges etc)

I'm experiencing this issue as well. Resetting window layouts did not fix the issue, and despite all the gizmos being toggled on in the scene view the actual light gizmos aren't appearing. The directional light is the worst of them all, with not even the position or rotation gizmos appearing. I'm using Unity 2021.2.2 with HDRP.
Really frustrating considering HDRP is supposed to be all about lights.

Same, selecting any object that shows a Gizmo makes the transform tool disappear, and the gizmos fail to show up.

    Unity 2021.2.2
    HDRP 12.1.1

Same issue for me, the transformation gizmos do not show if there is a light or camera component on an object - they WILL appear if those components are removed. Additionally, they WILL counterintuitively appear if you HIDE the layer that they are on (usually, 'default'). I can't work with Unity until this is fixed.

Issue appeared during Unity 2021.2.2f1 upgrade, I can't remember the version I came from because I did a complete reinstall trying to wipe any preferences file that might have caused this.

Edit: Also can confirm this is a problem on a completely fresh 3D URP project.

Confirmed @MajorParts, disabling the individual Light and Camera gizmo displays in the scene view gizmo visibility dropdown enables the standard transform gizmos properly again.

The gizmos are not actually hidden, but become located in the top-right corner of the scene view, aligned with the camera, extremely small.

These components all appear to be affected: Light, Camera, URP Decal Projector, all UI components, consider this non-exhaustive.

in URP 12.1.1 on the gizmo option list built-in components show/hide gizmo "Light" is reversed and shows when not checked and hides when checked

HDRP api 12.1.1 also has this same behavior

Went and reverted to 2021.1.28f1 and downgraded to URP 11.0.0 - issue is resolved, so as far as I can tell this involves a change in the 2021.2+ mainline and/or URP 12+

Confirm, starting brand new project and none of the light gizmos appear to be working.

    2021.2.2f1
    M1 MacBook Pro
    macOS 12.0.1

Between this and the basic input lag in the last version (literally typing anything was a frame behind) really discouraging.

I get this on M1 mac on 2021.2.3. It happens when I lock an inspector window. Unlocking it fixes the issue.

    Hey.
I suggest the creator of this thread to fix the grammar in the title to a text like: "gizmos not showing up" or "gizmos not visible" or both, to help people find the thread. I was looking for an answer for a long time and nothing showed up in the search.

Funny thing, this is not in the Changelog. I searched for gizmos on all Unity last versions from 2021.2 and nothing is there... Also, finding the bug in the issuetracker is impossible. Seems like a very famous bug but it's impossible to find if this is truly fixed and in which version. This makes our work much slower and we send bugs because we are not able to find existing ones.

Well. Just updated to 2021.2.7f and it is fixed. ;-)
