License server returned unknown error. Please contact support@unity3d.com

    Hi

    After our companys licenses expired the other day I can't login to the Unity Hub with my license any longer. It just gives me the error that the license server returned unknown error.

    I have tried to
    * revoke the license and add the seat again to my account.
    * repoen and close unity hub numerous times and insert my license key.
    * open as administrator.
    * sign out and in again.
    * reinstall unity hub
    * allow it through my windows firewall




    The log file is over 9000 lines long, as I've been using Unity Hub successfully for quite some time now. Heres the last few lines though

    I have also tried to open Unity 5.3.1 and 2018.1 beta manually and inserting my key and it works then, so my key is not invalid.

    I have also tried reinstalling unity hub.

    Same issue here. First time user of Unity Hub and installed 0.16. Company serial works on Unity 2017.3 just fine (renewed subscription last week), but when entering the number in Unity Hub I get the error message the original poster mentioned.

    same issue here. been using it for quite a while with no issue, but 0.16 throws the same error.

    @DanielTG tbh since the 5.x cycle i've regularly had issues with license activation. at the very least the manual activation option should be brought front and center in these cases as that's invariably the most reliable way to resolve the issue. with the editor that fact isn't clear and with hub you have to jump through several steps to even know the option exists.

    Also started to have this issue with Unity Hub 0.16, previous versions did not have this issue for me.

    I've also had regular license issues since the Unity 5.x lifecycle. Unity on a regular basis seems to reset and ask me for my serial again and account information. Although annoying, it never was an issue of validating the serial.

    While 0.16 fixed the issue on my work computer, it's still happening on my home computer.

    update: I fixed it by opening an old 2018 beta I had lying around on my home computer, and it also asked me to input my serial key and there it worked. The next time opening the hub it would accept that serial.

    Same issue here.
    One of my computer works, the other is not accepting the serial.

    Tried the same using my old 2017.3.1f1, or 2017.4.1f1 but it doesn't work. I also tried to return and reactivate but nothing.

    Still the license is still working if I use 2017.3.1f1 or 2017.4.1f1 directly.

    I get this error several times a week on my Desktop, and every time I install a new version of the editor on my laptop. My laptop will allow me to enter my serial maybe 50% of the time, my desktop I think has only allowed it once.

    I restarted my computer today and when I reopen Unity Hub I lost my activation. I inserted my activation code and I am getting "unity server returned an unknown error" with version 0.20.1, too. The launcher of each Unity release does not have this issue.

    Is there any news about his issue? I am using Unity Hub 0.20.1 and I am having the same issue.

    edit: The "manual activation" works! For some reason, unity hub thought I don't have Internet access, and gave me the option to activate my licence with a licence file from the website (there was a link) and that worked fine!
    So if anyone is having this issue, try cutting your internet connection to get the manual activation.

    Worked like a charm. You have to do the following to complete this process:
    1. Disconnect internet
    2. Create the license activation file from Unity Hub
    3. Reconnect internet
    4. Submit activation file to the link provided
    5. Follow the steps in the browser
    6. Download the activation file from the browser
    7. Disconnect internet
    8. Re-open Unity Hub
    9. Select the activation file you downloaded from the browser
    Once this is all done and you are running, you can reconnect your internet.

    I also experienced this problem in Unity Hub this week v1.1.0. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

    As a work around for anyone else experiencing this issue, open Unity directly from the installation folder (on OSX /Applications/Unity/Hub/Editor/your_unity_version) and activate your license as normal.

    The Unity Hub will then work as normal.

    Yesterday, I opened Unity Hub as normal and was greeted with the login screen followed by the license screen followed by Unity Hub claiming the license server had said something it didn't understand. I manually opened the version of Unity I needed and went to work. That version of Unity happened to be installed outside the usual Unity Hub location and was also a 5.x version. Not sure which is relevant. Anyway, today I dug into it a bit more and discovered that opening a 2018 version of Unity installed in the Unity Hub location gave me the login into license thing, too, but it worked, and then Unity Hub was fine as well.

    So that's a possible workaround if you're having a problem like this.

    And it looks like Unity Hub has a bug with license handling. Possibly relevant log lines:

    same problem here and I dont have the hub. I have 2018.2.16f1 Windows 64. It does that all them time when I switch from Plus to Nintendo Switch etc..

    License error: 113 means expired. Please delete the old license file in folder c:\ProgramData\Unity and try again.
    For mac, it is "/Library/Application Support/Unity".

    Same thing happened to me right now.
    Unity Hub opens correctly, but as soon as I try to open any project I get:

    EDIT: nevermind, probably was a temporary issue, since I moved my seat, revoked it, moved out and back in the same organisation.

    Launching the editor directly was giving me a permission error on writing on the .ULF file.

    I took ownership of that file and now it seems to work just fine.

    Fun fact: I haven't touched that file for months and has always worked.

    I believe Unity Hub may have some issues when dealing with Win10Pro file permissions, it's not the first time that I'm stumbling on a file permission problem... even on a clean Windows installation.
