Licence Question

    Hi,
    I have a question about the unity licence.
    I'm a student and have never worked with unity before but a company asked me if I could do a simple room simulation with some models, lights and a camera. The company earns more than 100.000$ per year but the project will never be published nor will it be used in a commercial way.
    So under these conditions, do I still have to buy the licence?

    I believe this is the company's responsibility. It's their revenue, not yours.

    That depends.

    If you are a separate entity from the company, and work on the project on you own, and deliver the company a binary file, then its your income that counts.

    On the other hand if you are employed by the company, or working on part of one of their projects, or delivering code which they compile, then you are probably required to license as per their income requirements.

    Thank you for your replies. The company already dismissed the request since they won't buy any licence for an intership student. I now write my own engine for the purpose I need but it's taking a lot of time and it won't be that efficient since I'm not a professional.

    If you just need an engine without having to pay a commercial license there are at least two open source engines. Godot was always an open source engine and has a very extensive community while Xenko was previously a commercial engine that didn't take off and has recently become open source.

    At the very least both of them would make excellent reference material for people interested in building their own engine.

    I hate to say this, but the Unreal license is the best for this purpose. Unreal only costs when you generate revenue from the app. Which means that an app used as an internal tool can be used entirely for free.
