I post this thread here even if it's not for promoting a product but to ask if something like this exists.
I think this thread is totally AS related so I decided to not post this in the Support section.

I searched the AS but found nothing but it could be on some weird name.
I remember that maybe somebody did something like this in the past, I think I've read something in the forum.

Anyway, I would like to know if there is a simple level editor for Unity, so that one can choose which elements are available to the user and let the user add/delete/change them on the scene, and of course save and load the scene.

    Thank you in advance.

Did you check out Rotirz Tile System or Tidy Tile Mapper? They might allow access for level editing...

Ummm not even Probuilder is for me.
I will have to make it myself, and then I'll sell it too

If you do not want to model yourself, you also have package "puzzle" as makeYOURlevel. The LITE version is free and you can already do a lot of things.

Thanks for the advice, but maybe I have been misunderstood.

I don't want tiles system, I want to be able to place prefabs in a scene, and allow users to do it.
I don't need prefabs or meshes, I want a SYSTEM that allows users, players, to place those prefabs in the scene.
A system to build a map, not more, not less like the Unity Editor itself, but limited to move, rotate and scale of objects.

If there was a ready solution at affordable price, I may have bought it, but seeing nothing is there, I'll make it.
It will take some days, but then I'll also sell it :D

I don't know what you mean by "magnetizing system", but I started to make up my editor.
For now I have the camera moving, pick object, release object.
Next I'll set up the array of available objects

Well, there was an asset called XPand that for some reason no longer exists anywhere. I am currently making a level editor that resembles the one used in portal 2 (Right now, my level editor is the same as the one in portal 2 with the exception of the ability to place objects). I think with level editors, it is bad to give the user too much control as then they can easily make exceptionally buggy levels.

i am also in the crowd of Map Editor creating, there actually is already one http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/167856-PlayEditor , its got all the goodies built in, pretty new.

i am going a different route with my editor as i have to support multiple game modes, so it calls for something more dynamic. And mine is for mobile devices and pc, so the buttons are way different. but all in all, i feel that if your making your own editor, you get to decide how much freedom you want users to have. I plan not to limit creativity, but instead plan for worst case scenarios, where players put 1000 objects... then lowest quality shouldnt have lighting, shadows and shaders should be switched to non-lit. You can combat buggy ness only so much, its up to the users to do the rest.

That's what I'm looking for. Thank you very much :)
Unluckily I think it only works in editor, and I need it as a stand alone app.

My game is a pretty "simple" one, I'm not going for huge worlds building.
A typical map is around 200 dynamic objects and 100 static meshes.

So if a user wants to build up a level with 10000 dynamic objects it's his own business... I'll just write an opening screen with suggestions, but if he wants to push to the limit, why not.
The worst that can happen is that his level will crash out the game
And on another point of view, if he has a powerful machine, he can test a map with a huge amount of objects and have more fun :)

you know you could always limit the amount of objects they are allowed to place

Yeah sure, I'll put some check in to limit their "freedom of bugness" :D but in general I want the user to be free to do whatever he wants.
After all, if he wants to waste time making impossible levels, it's his business.

Also, I'll see if I can sell this on the Asset Store, so a version of it will be very very elastic.
And it will be able to load and save through a javascript trick, or to send and receive maps from a server.

Megmaltese, I'm waiting for you to get this project ready as this would be really useful for me too. I'd like to add modding support on my upcoming projects. :p
