    Hey All,

I haven't checked in on the state of how the DOTS animation packages were coming along since before COVID lockdowns. Are there any blog posts, unite presentations or, good forum posts from the last 6 months or so that has an update on how it is all coming along?

Just out of interest, trying to stay current and, wondering how everything's coming along.

So we're past the end of September. Is there an update on combination of dots and animation?

Hi and thanks for your interest! DOTS-compatible animation is still being actively worked on. All DOTS packages are scheduled for new releases the week of 27 Oct. The animation samples project will be updated as part of that release (so possibly up to a day or two after the packages are live).

To set expectations: Because it will be undergoing a lot of intense work, we will be providing DOTS animation and its samples as-is for the time being. As such, you should not generally expect devs to be especially active and answering questions about it in the forums for at least the next couple quarters.

That's great news. Any chance you could give us a quick lowdown on the high level features/changes we can expect in 0.16 / next week's update? Many thanks.

Will you guys at least get some feedback some other way? A bunch of things happen in Unity without ever getting user feedback and it sometimes brings a lot of pain in the end.

Timeline Signals, for example, have a majoritarily negative user response in their announcement thread, which was never addressed, I assume because the work is already done and they don't want to fundamentally change it; something that would be easier to do had they gotten feedback before implementing the whole thing.

Visual Scripting recently had something similar, but since the announcement was made before they did all the work, re-planning was possible, even though they mostly stuck to the initial plan.

I ask this because Animation is one of my personal major concerns for the future of Unity. The current system is generally pretty terrible and I would love the new one to be good. From the little you've shown so far it seems to go on what I think is the right direction, but I very much would like to not only see the iterations of it, but know that I could somehow influence the design in case I ever see something I think is terrible. I swear, I love Unity and I don't want to abandon it. DOTS Animation is one of my few hopes for it.

Best place to ask for these kinds of general updates is in the DOTS forum :)

Thanks for the feedback! We definitely understand the concern. As mentioned in places like this video, Unity as a whole is actively working on developing and validating our work with productions moving forward. We’ll be more available to engage on the forums for broader feedback on the new animation tech over time, it will just be a little quiet in the near-term.

@Adam-Mechtley were the sample updates made private? I see on Unity-Technologies github that they were updated recently but upon browsing the actual repo there aren't any visible changes

Hi @ghostking9, did you pull the Git repository or did you download a ZIP file from the GitHub page?

We use Git LFS to track resource files (including FBXs) and if you download a ZIP archive you won't get them. You need to install Git LFS and clone the repository, or pull the branch if you have already cloned it.

    FYI 0.8.0-preview4 RigConversion.cs changes broke UNITY_ENABLE_ANIMATION_RIG_CONVERSION_CLEANUP.

Also seems maybe you changed something in the hierarchy again, would be nice to get consistent notes on that in the changelog saves a lot of time having to hunt down what changed as there are a lot of moving parts in that area.
