    Hey Daniel,
Looks quite nice. Do you intend to do other weapon types (plasma guns, railguns)? And you forgot to mention the price ;).

    Hey,

Yes I do plan on creating addition Weapon System Packs. I was going to wait and see what the overall response was to this pack before continuing with development of others. The price for this pack will be $10.00.

So plasma guns and railguns? Those would be really cool to develop and see in action.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Looks like a great laser system for my sci-fi space shooter! Can't wait to see it on asset store! Especially with plasma and rail guns! If you're looking for more ideas: electric bolts, circular "tractor beam" rays, flame thrower, rapid fire laser tracers (a la Star Wars laser "bullets"), rocket trails/thrusters... All with multiple intensities color variations to match this laser set... Would be very cool! Nice lasers DanielK!

I would love to get some feedback on what can be done to make this pack better so I can include those things in the next version.

    Hey Daniel,
I have purchased your Laser Package today morning. Here some thoughts from my quick glance (not tested thoroughly).

    What i like:
10 classes. Coincidentally my game is also based on 10 weapon quality/techlevel classes so this comes in handy for me ;).
The Weapon Model with "glowing" parts.
No warnings or errors on import (should be standard but is seen too rarely).

    What I miss:
A particle effect which indicates a hit by emitting sparks along the hit normal (the more/longer living the stronger the laser is). Your hit effect is a bit "comic"-like and also don't moves with the hit. here is an example, press left mouse to fire the laser.

    What i dislike:
    Empty folders (Particles, LaserWeaponSystem).
NGUI free. those few buttons and labels could have been done with OnGUI and potentially updated once 4.6 with new GUI arrives. The "dependency" on a third party plugin is unnecessary IMO.
The folder structure. It should be possible to omit the import of all Demo related stuff by unselecting one folder in the package import dialogue. So ideally you have one folder for all REQUIRED assets for the lasers themselfes and one folder for demo scenes and their specific assets (tower defense scripts, shipmodels, shipexplosions, shields, NGUI free etc.). So when i do an import of your package into my main project it is not cluttered with the stuff i don't want/need.

Basically you have one definite customer (me ;)) for all weapon effects of this kind you do. danreid70 has named some more and i also have some very specific in mind (fe blackhole generator, emp, rotating disk) but i doubt you will sell much of those as they are too specific. But if you need some more ideas give me a shout. but with rail/coil, plasma/ion and some rockets/torpedoes you can't go wrong. Ideally with 10 classes each (maybe even same color scheme for consistency), a good model also representing the level of the weapon (color glow), hit particles, sound effects and with the same folder structure. If you put it all in one package or sell them separately is up to you.

I would like some short feedback wether you intend to change the structure of the package as I suggested because in this case i wait with importing into my main project.

anyway, good work and fair price.

    Hey,

Thanks so much for all the great feedback. I'll add the following to the list of additions/changes in the next update:

    - Remove NGUI Free use OnGUI for GUI Elements
    - Re-structure file folders to allow for import without demo assets
    - Make the hit effects more "powerful" and less "toony"
    - Add button click to fire laser (optional) as the firing mechanic will be very subjective to each game where it's used

Let me know if you have any further suggests. I'm hoping to have this update submitted for review either today or tomorrow at the latest.

    Thanks again!

Update on Version 1.1 of Laser Beams - Weapon Systems Pack:

    - Re-structure file folders to allow for import without demo assets (COMPLETE)

Working on making Laser Beam "Hit" effects less toony... and working to get NGUI Free removed and using OnGUI in place of it.

I've had a lot of requests for a short tutorial on how to install the laser beams and general info about how they work... so I'll be working on that and updating the pack with it ASAP.

Maybe you should provide a simplified example too, something like a single laser pointing toward the screen center with a first person camera, without the multiple levels and auto firing logic.

That would help the coders who just want to use your pretty animated laser beam asset on their own code ;)

I'm not sure I know what you mean by a simple laser beam. Can you explain in more detail?

Little distressed - no instructions on how to set up a laser beam without the demo scenes or turrets (in fact - no instructions at all!)

How can I simply instantiate a laser without all the demo scene cruft?

    thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the quick reply...
Quick question...how come no docs on all the neato-looking parameters for the lasers? Looks like lots of ways to 'tweak' but no docs talking about these fields....

I didn't want to have to charge a lot for my packages. Best way to keep prices low is not spend extensive time on Tutorials and try to keep the scripts as simple as possible. Hope that makes sense.

Dude... there are like 40 exposed settings for the laser - with no documentation....
ZERO idea how or what to tweak (or what NOT to tweak).
