    ..by which I mean a dictionary of words with sound files?

    I am making an adventure game and I would quite like it to speak some of the words such as "Go" and "North". or "Use" and "Axe".

    I don't need a full text to speech program, though. (I don't think there are any that run on multiple platforms anyway are there?)

    I could record myself or an actor but I figured if there's something free and opensource out there might as well use that as the quality would be better.

    I hope Unity 6 has speech recognition!

    "Today, Unity Technologies has announced their partnership with Nuance and Wolfram Alpha to incorporate their technologies into Unity 6, which will actually talk you through the process of building your game and do so for you using only voice commands."

    How many voice commands do you think you'll need? I bet the quality would actually be much better recording it yourself since you could stick to the atmosphere of your game, where a third party option would just be generic and probably feel bland.

    CMU Sphinx from Carnegie Melon might be a good place to start. We used this as a starting point for the text-to-speech portion of a project I worked on last year where I work...there's a link somewhere in there for a word list that can be digested and used by a speech recognizer.

    Is this true? It's not true is it. Or is it? I mean it could be true.

    @yoonitee :cool:

    I'd actually be happy to just have Nuance / Any voice recognition API built in for use in games. But the fictional press release I suggested would be awesome, too.
