Hello! I I found that it very nice to have someone to talk to about game design while your making a game. I have a few friends on Skype and we chat about our game design and also share ideas, tips and tricks, and help each other out! Skype lets you do Screen Share and drag files to share instantly, so its easy to show someone your idea or issue, or share a Script or any other files. I would like to expand my list of game dev. friends, and i'm on Skype and designing my game pretty much all day on the weekends, and at night after work. I find it fascinating that this thread is receiving not only such a positive response, but the way people are getting so protective of the OP for what I believed to be a light-hearted joke about the way males tend to act when obvious females are around. Put another way, if this same thread were posted by a new forum member named Fr4gM45s3r69, with an avatar of Mike Tyson's face, I think the responses would have been very different.

In any case, I hope people will continue to share their thoughts and ideas and ask for questions in this forum and not just in a separate Skype group. Posting things here invites larger discussions and provides valuable reading material for people who don't want to be as actively involved in the conversation, but still likes "listening in."

 

You have a good point which I cannot argue with. However in the scenario you don't propose I don't really think the joke would have been made, do you?

Of course. I totally agree with you, and I'll always come here to share my ideas to. I just like having someone to chat with one one one sometimes, and not have to wait for a long delay for a response. Also you can't do live screen shares on The forums! Its sooo nice for helping someone troubleshoot.

 

Sarcasm, irony and subtle intonations do not transmit well over text due to loss of extra information (like posture, facial expression, intonation, etc). You should know that already...

 

Additionally I wonder how many of those who find it a "light-hearted joke" are male.

 

Skype is pretty robust for working with other people for this reason. Just dragging and dropping in any file type is very user friendly. I'm sure there is a max file size cap, but when you can drop in a 30mb Max file and not worry about it - it's pretty nice.
I only use skype when working contract jobs, and a couple user groups that are helpful to collect information from, but agreeing with gamegirl - for instantly transferring files and chatting about them instantly - skype is great.

 

I've transferred a 6GB file by Skype before
Wasn't exactly a smart idea... but it worked
I'm assuming how its P2P means there aren't things like size caps
