ICT Graphics Lab made probably the best skin shader ever.

I wonder how Unity could fair with a similar shader...

I wonder how it'd look on someone's mangled poser-ripped grotesque indie model?

Impressive how far we have come. But looks still in the uncanny valley for me.

No reason someone very clever couldn't implement the same technique in Unity.

But I'm with @nipoco the overall effect was creepy.

I think they over did the shininess when she puffed her checks out and brought me down through the valley.

Are you sure it's not live-action?

This video shows a bit more detail on how they make it. It looks like there's a fairly complex capture setup beyond a simple skin shader. So it will be a while before poser-ripping indies are applying it to their grotesque models.

Debevec has been on working on that for quite a while, that's not new. (I mean it wasn't in video form, but they are all evolution of the Light Stage tech debevec did in 2000).

    And... We don't need that.

Yeah like most really interesting techniques, there isn't the general mass market tool chain to take care of it.

I think the wrinkle maps and the textures are the real deal here!

Yeah, that's true. There's always tons of cool techniques to do all sorts of cool things, but if there's no way to get it to market then it's all kind of pointless.

Same, it's really impressive but when it got to the mouth talking parts I got weirded out hardcore.
