Hi tequyla. After less than expected progress i will turn around and head for PUN. It seems to be a reasonable framework to get stable and high performance network sessions. I will implement it via a free add-on for Isometric Shooter. Kind regards.

Hi, I just bought this, looks awesome, one thing that is strange to me is the controls, it plays as a top down game but looks like an isometric game even the character appears to be going only up and down. I would have expected more isometric controls, kind of like when you hold up and along at the same time . It would be good if this was an option, or if anyone has written any code for it Id like to see it.

Hi radiantboy. Thanks a lot for your support! I am not 100% sure what you mean with your example of isometric controls. Are you able to provide a picture or video to explain it? Thanks.

By the way. A new update is on approval. It will replace the GUI by the new Unity UI, so it will be a lot easier to modify.

ISO.jpg Hi! I bought Isometric Shooter a few weeks ago, and I am loving it.
    I had a few questions:

    1) I have the control freak input set up, how can I match the angle of the right joystick with the aiming direction?
In the screenshot, my joystick is pointing at about 0º (12'o clock) and the player character is facing at about 40º. I would love it if I can get the player to face 0º.

    2) Would you recommned emptying the Trash game object when the player clears the stage?

    3) With the Keyboard Mouse control, the player character moves faster when moving in diagonal. How can I fix this?

    Thanks!

I love this pack, I was actually playing the wolf mission over and over until 9am LOL.. it is a cool pack and Im glad to see you improving it constantly. I am hoping to make this the basis of my next game. I still find the controls a little strange, once I have tweaked them to my liking I will show you :) Also I couldnt work out how to find weapons very often, are they random ? I found shot gun once but couldnt find the bombs. Just watching new video, the supply lines mission is new yes? Woo, such fun! Took me ages to work out you can destroy the guard towers :)))

So all in all I love it, I think the characters should have 8 directional frames, and there should be an option for "true isometric" controls (I couldnt find an example actually I played shadowrun on SNES but it did actually control like your demo) but apart from that it is almost perfect, you could make Cannon Fodder (Amiga) on this. Final point is Id like to see path finding from enemies, so you can't trick them all to get locked behind the barrels and blow them up, which is DAMN fun btw :)

    1) Control Freak:
I will check and fix this with next hotfix release.

    2) Trash:
You could empty it if you have performance issues. In fact, the "Game" container will be reset automatically with every new game session.

    3) Diagonal speed with keyboard:
I will check and fix this with next hotfix release.

    4) Find weapons:
Weapons are attached to the character and can be found as texture in the project view. During the gameplay you can find ammo packs. They are placed items or looted items from obstacles or NPCs. There is at the moment no script to pick up weapons. This is on my open features list.

    5) Eight directional frames:
Actually this is supported, but no example is included. I will put that point on the list of tasks.

    6) True isometric controls:
I kindly ask you to send me an example youtube clip or similar to understand what it should look like. Thanks.

    7) Pathfinding:
Yeah, that's on my list, too. :) I have played around with Dijkstra, but too much preparation is required from the user to enable that. I will check alternatives.

First off, great looking asset! I'm going to be utilizing this as the 'engine' for my game. Just have some questions about getting started! Specifically about art. I know this is a dumb question, but do I create 2d art and have it inserted into the game, or do i need to make 3d models? I know i read that you based it all on 3d, but i don't understand how to do the art, lol!

    "5) Eight directional frames:

Like this quote, do i need to create eight different directions and then create the walking/firing animations for each direction as well? Thanks!!

Thanks for your support and questions.

The characters, NPCs, weapons and some effects are 2d, using a transparent cutout shader material or sprites. The map geometry including buildings, crates, barrels etc. are 3d, using mostly diffuse shaders.

For each directional frame you would have to add a 2d art of the character or NPC. At the moment there is only the front and back side of torso and head, without animation. The legs only have one direction consisting of 3 different frames for the walk animation. The hands are included in the weapon 2d art. The weapons have an orbit around the torso when aiming at something.

    Kind regards.

Thanks for the quick response! I did notice that the weapon orbits the torso. is there a good way to have the arms rotate with it so it looks more realistic instead of these disembodied hands holding the gun?

On another note, is it easy to add computer AI teammates?

You could try to integrate arms, but i think they would also have to orbit the torso. If you give them an angle where the upper arm is very near to the shoulder and the lower arm very near to the weapon it might look fine.

You could modify the npc AI to behave as a friend and follow and shoot at enemies. A target finding procedure would have to be implemented, and a lot more other stuff depending on the AI complexity you have in mind. So, long story short, it is not built-in and needs to be implemented.

Version 2.1.5 has been sent to the Asset Store for approval.

    It contains the following:
    • Support for latest version of "Control Freak"
    • Hotfix of aiming for "Control Freak" (player now aims in direction of virtual stick)
    • Hotfix of diagonal speed (diagonal speed now equals horizontal and vertical speed)
    Kind regards.

Hello. The discount is still available, but only at Level 11. https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/level11

It is basically a 3d environment, so 3d characters would be possible. Just you would have to add an animation controller and connect it with the input.

Isometric Shooter 2.2.0 - pending approval

Until today there were no prefabs. Every object was just inside the scenes and had to be copied.
Starting from the upcoming 2.2.0 update you will get prefabs for better/faster map creation.

    Cheers.

I would love to see how this is implemented. Can u make a demo for 8 Directional Frames? Can your 2D Character Controller support 8 Directional Spritesheet, for example, like the image above?

Dual Weapons support, Melee support would be great.

    Hi. Thanks for your question.

Spritesheets are not yet support. I will implement it. Until now you have to have one sprite for each direction and set an angle at which a specific sprite has to be loaded. I will check how to integrate dual weapon and melee support.

    Cheers.

I think it is time to do it as an alternative to 2d, isn't it?! Would the use of Unity sample models be sufficient? I could make a separate scene to demonstrate it.

Hi and thanks for the latest comments! I am working on a voxel edition at the moment to enable 3d characters.

The bomb feature is a good idea. And melee is also on the list. No news for multiplayer, sorry.

It is free because it is just one map and only a few adjustments to the code. Maybe i will expand it later and then it will cost a bit.
