Trying to install unity in my Bootcamp partition on a mac to check whether or not I will get better video performance. However the Visual studio part of the installation stalls. Just takes ages and goes nowhere, even the 3%$%$%$££ cancel button is greyed out. So trying a fresh install. Does unity install monodevelop? or should I try again. Thanks.

You can try going directly to Microsoft and download Visual Studio 2015 Community edition and install it manually, then uncheck it from the Unity install. Seems to work better for me that way (in Windows though, haven't done that in Bootcamp).

Thanks. Does VS have significant advantages though, I am unfamiliar with it. I have just used Monodevelop on mac.

I suppose it's debatable. I personally think it's a more solid product with better performance, better debugging abilities, and so on. Then again I used it for years before Unity was even a thing. I did try Mondevelop when I first started using Unity but it seemed unstable and buggy to me. It has probably been improved since then but I've not bothered with it since.
