there was a camera installed above the table, when a sticker which is above the can is scanned it plays a specific tune accordingly..

Yes, you could argue that this application is augmenting reality, since you're enhancing reality with relevant context aware information ; the visuals and the sound.
What is the relevance of this question?
If you're wondering wether something like this ( the recognition of the stickers on the cans ) could be build using Vuforia. Yes, Vuforia's image recognition could be used to identify the images on the tops of the cans.
And BTW you could als build similar applications with different technology for the identification of the objects. I know of similar applications that are not using visual recognition but are using other tricks to identify the cans. For example on a touch screen you could use patterns of conductive material on the bottom of the cans.

using conductive material & a touch screen seems to be a very interesting idea, i think it could be done using unity as well. what do you think?
