Is there an easy way to treat D-Pad axis as buttons?

Not really much to add, just want to use my PS4 controller d-pad as buttons and access all the methods that come with it (on button down, on button up, etc).

I want to have a use for tapping a direction, or for holding the button.

I'm sure I can do it the hard way, but wanted to see if there's an easy way.
